Itinerary
- Day 1
Kathmandu/Pokhara to Machha Khola
You'll start with a long drive from Kathmandu or Pokhara to Machha Khola, which takes about 9 to 10 hours covering roughly 160 kilometers. The route passes through varied terrain, moving from green hillsides to more rugged areas as you go. Once you arrive at 869m, you'll check into your teahouse and settle in for the night before trekking starts.

Machha Khola to Jagat
After breakfast, you'll trek 16 kilometers to Jagat at 1340m. The trail runs alongside the Budhi Gandaki River with several suspension bridges to cross and small villages dotted along the way, each surrounded by terraced fields. The village has a nice, quiet feel to it, making it a good spot to spend the night before continuing.

Jagat to Lokpa
The next 13 kilometers take you up to Lokpa at 2240m through lush forests where you'll spot various plants and wildlife. The river stays with you most of the way, and the sound of water accompanies your walk. Arriving at this remote, peaceful village gives you a chance to recover and prepare for what's coming.

Lokpa to Chumling
You'll cover 7 kilometers to Chumling at 2386m, a shorter day that lets you move at a relaxed pace. It's a good chance to soak in traditional ways while settling into your accommodation for the evening.

Chumling to Chhokangparo
An 8-kilometer trek brings you to Chhokangparo at 3031m, known for its mountain views and cultural heritage. Along the way, the trail winds through varied landscapes with peaks and waterfalls visible. You'll arrive to warm welcomes and traditional Nepali meals in the teahouse.

Chhokangparo to Nile
You'll trek 9.5 kilometers to Nile at 3361m through rugged terrain and alpine forests. The route offers wide views of surrounding peaks as you move higher. Once there, you can check out the village and talk with locals about their traditional mountain lifestyle.

Acclimatization Day
Today is a rest day for your body to adjust to the altitude. In the morning, you'll do a 4.3-kilometer hike up to Mu Gompa at 3700m, a monastery sitting high in the mountains with great Himalayan views. After exploring the monastery and its surroundings, you'll head back down to Nile to relax for the rest of the day.

Nile to Chumling
You'll retrace your route back to Chumling over 17.5 kilometers, which lets you see the scenery from a different angle as you descend. Along the way, you might stop to chat with people you meet or take photos of things that catch your eye. By evening, you'll settle back into Chumling after a full day of walking.

Chumling to Deng
The 14.5-kilometer walk to Deng at 1860m takes you through green forests and small villages tucked into the landscape. Deng to Namrung
You're trekking 15 kilometers to Namrung at 2630m, a village surrounded by tall peaks and green areas. The walk through untouched wilderness lets you really take in the calm of these high elevations.

Namrung to Shyala
An 11-kilometer trek gets you to Shyala at 3500m in the heart of the Manaslu region. The path goes through alpine meadows and rhododendron forests with mountain views the whole way up. As the air gets colder and thinner at higher elevation, you'll feel the change while taking in the beauty around you before settling in for the night.

Shyala to Sama Gaon
You'll hike 15.5 kilometers to Sama Gaon at 3520m beneath towering Himalayan peaks. Watch for local wildlife as you go, and take time to explore the village and nearby areas. If you want, you can take a side trip to Birendra Lake or Pungen Gompa to see more views and learn about the local culture.

Sama Gaon to Samdo
Only 3 hours of trekking, about 6 kilometers, gets you to Samdo at 3860m near the Tibetan border. The short distance lets you move at an easy pace and soak in the mountain setting around you. Keep your eyes open for blue sheep and Himalayan birds, then rest and let your body adjust to the higher altitude.

Acclimatization Day
Today is another rest day where you'll do an 8-hour round-trip hike to Rui La near the Tibetan border to help with altitude adjustment. This challenging walk shows you the rugged Himalayan landscape up close with stunning views of mountains and valleys. After reaching the high pass and taking in the surroundings, you'll head back down to Samdo to rest.

Samdo to Dharamshala
You'll trek 6 kilometers to Dharamshala at 4460m, also called Larkya Phedi, as you move toward the pass crossing. The trail goes through rocky, high-altitude terrain with mountain views all around. As you go higher, the air gets thinner and colder, and you'll see the Himalayan peaks more clearly before arriving to prepare for tomorrow's big climb.

Dharamshala to Larke-La Pass to Bhimtang
Today is the big day, an 8 to 10-hour trek covering 25 kilometers total. You'll climb 14 kilometers up to Larke-La pass at 5106m, the highest point on your trek, surrounded by snow-capped peaks the whole way. After taking in the views from the top, you'll descend 11 kilometers to Bhimtang at 3590m, a nice village in alpine meadows where you can recover.

Bhimtang to Dharapani
You're heading down now, trekking 16 kilometers to Dharapani at 1960m through terraced fields and thick forests. The downhill walk lets you spot more local plants and animals while moving to lower elevations. You might stop to chat with people you meet or take photos of the mountain views before settling into your teahouse for the night.

Dharapani to Kathmandu/Pokhara
After breakfast, you'll drive 8 to 9 hours back to Kathmandu or Pokhara, which wraps up your trek. The long drive gives you time to think back on everything you've seen and done. As the mountains fade behind you, you'll carry the memories of your journey through the Manaslu region and the sense of having accomplished something real.
