Itinerary
- Day 1
Vancouver to Jasper
You'll make your own way to Vancouver Pacific Center Train Station and board VIA Rail at 3:00 PM heading to Jasper. If you're in economy class, meals aren't included but you can buy food and drinks on board, while sleeper class passengers get meals covered. The trip takes about 16 hours, so you'll arrive the next morning. There's no guide with you during this segment, so it's just you and the train.

- Day 2
Jasper
You'll pull into Jasper station around 11:00 AM where your guide meets you. From there, the bus tour starts at Maligne Lake, the biggest natural lake in the Canadian Rockies, where you'll have about 100 minutes to spend (there's an optional boat cruise if you want). Next you'll head to Maligne Canyon to see the limestone formations that carved out over millions of years, and then you get free time to wander around Jasper Town on your own.

- Day 3
Jasper National Park to Banff
Today focuses on Jasper National Park and the drive south. Start with Athabasca Falls to see the glacial water power, then you'll travel the scenic Icefield Parkway for 232 kilometers through wilderness. Columbia Icefield comes next with optional Ice Explorer and Skywalk experiences (note that these close before the first Saturday of May and after the second Saturday of October, replaced by Minnewanka Lake and Banff Upper Hot Springs during those times). You'll also see Bow Lake and Peyto Lake with their turquoise waters before heading toward Banff.

- Day 4
Lake Louise and Yoho National Park
Visit Lake Louise first, the iconic spot named after Princess Louise Caroline Alberta that's known for photographs. Then head to Moraine Lake in the Valley of the Ten Peaks with its turquoise waters (this one opens late May or early June and closes early October, so if it's closed you'll go to Vermillion Lake instead). After that, you'll explore Yoho National Park on the western slopes, pass through the historic Spiral Tunnel, and check out Emerald Lake and Natural Bridge, both glacier-fed and beautiful.

- Day 5
Banff National Park
You'll spend the day in Banff National Park, Canada's first national park. There's an optional gondola ride up Sulphur Mountain if you want panoramic views, and you can hike Johnston Canyon with its waterfalls and scenic trails. You'll see Bow Falls, the wide cascading waterfall near the famous Banff Springs Hotel, and stop at Surprise Corner for photos of the hotel framed by mountains. The Hoodoos rock formations are on the route too. Save about 90 minutes for Banff Town to browse shops and grab food.

- Day 6
Banff to Kamloops
The Rocky Mountaineer shuttle picks you up from your hotel early in the morning and takes you to the station. You'll board the train to Kamloops with welcome-aboard breakfast served. The journey goes through the Continental Divide, historic Spiral Tunnels, the dramatic Kicking Horse Canyon, Rogers Pass, and Craigellachie, where the last spike of the Canadian Pacific Railway was driven. You'll arrive at Kamloops between 6:30 PM and 8:00 PM PT.

Kamloops to Vancouver
The final leg takes you west toward the Pacific Ocean and Vancouver. The scenery changes dramatically as you go from desert-like interior through winding river canyons and forests, then through the Cascade Mountains and lush Fraser Valley. You'll see steep slopes along the Thompson River and Hell's Gate in the Fraser Canyon. After you arrive in Vancouver this evening, you'll arrange your own transportation or use the train shuttle bus to get to your hotel.
