The city's elegant architecture and cultural energy make it worth a few hours of exploring on foot.

You have the morning in Vienna before the ship departs early at 04:00. Make the most of those hours with a final walk through the city if you're up for it. The ship arrives in Bratislava at 08:00, Europe's youngest capital with a baroque old town that rewards wandering. Austro-Hungarian palaces and riverside squares fill the day until 23:59, giving you plenty of time to get a feel for this often-overlooked city.

Krems appears at 13:00 and you'll have an hour to walk this charming town sitting at the entrance to the Wachau valley. Back on the ship, the landscape continues through the UNESCO-protected region with its vineyards and small villages. By 18:00, you'll reach Melk, where a Benedictine monastery sits dramatically on a hilltop above the water. The view from the ship is quite something.
