Itinerary
- Day 1
Londorossi Gate to Mti Mkubwa Camp
Your guide and mountain support crew will meet you at the hotel early in the morning for a briefing about the trek ahead. Then you'll drive roughly 3 to 4 hours to Londorossi Gate where the park permit formalities get handled. From there, the actual trekking begins through rainforest terrain to Mti Mkubwa Camp. After settling in, you'll do an acclimatization hike toward Shira 1 Camp with about 300 meters of elevation gain, then return to your camp for the night.

Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira 1 Camp
After an early breakfast, the trek heads upward gradually to reach 3,500 meters where you get your first views of Shira Plateau and Kibo Volcano. The walk from Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira 1 Camp takes about 5 to 6 hours and stays relatively easygoing, which helps your body start adjusting to the altitude. Once you reach camp and have lunch, there's time to rest and walk around the nearby area before evening.

Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp
The trek moves from Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp at 3,900 meters, and along the way you'll see Mount Meru (the fifth highest peak in Africa) if weather cooperates. The landscape here shows unique Kilimanjaro plant life and opens up views of the surrounding area. After lunch and a two-hour rest at camp, you'll head out on an acclimatization hike toward Lava Tower with another 300-meter climb before returning to your sleeping area.

Shira Camp to Lava Tower to Barranco Camp
Following breakfast, you trek from Shira Camp to Lava Tower at 4,630 meters, which is a key point on this route. This part of the climb has many ups and downs and can feel tough because of the altitude. You'll spend 1 to 2 hours at Lava Tower for lunch and to let your body adjust. Then it's time to descend to Barranco Camp at 3,960 meters where the famous Barranco Wall comes into view, waiting for you to climb it tomorrow.

Karanga Camp
You'll start early to skip the crowds on the Barranco Wall. The wall looks intimidating but the actual climb only takes about an hour and gives great photo chances with Kibo Peak behind you. After that, the path continues with various ups and downs where your guides pick routes based on each climber's abilities. You break for lunch at Karanga Camp, then do one more acclimatization climb toward Barafu at 4,270 meters before heading back to Karanga Camp to sleep.

Karanga Camp to Barafu Summit Camp
You trek to Barafu Summit Camp at 4,640 meters where your team has already set up tents and sleeping gear. After resting a bit, you'll head out for an acclimatization hike toward Kosovo Summit Camp at 4,800 meters and then return to Barafu. You'll have a hot dinner and spend the rest of the day resting and getting sleep since the night summit push starts very early tomorrow.

Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Millennium Camp
You leave Barafu Camp in the darkness and start the climb toward Uhuru Peak at 5,895 meters, the summit of Kilimanjaro. The actual route isn't technically hard, but the altitude is the real challenge at this point. Each pair of climbers gets a personal guide watching how you're doing both physically and mentally throughout the ascent. After reaching the top, you can check out the nearby glacier if you want, then head back down to Barafu for a 2-hour rest before continuing the descent to Millennium Camp at 3,820 meters.

Millennium Camp to Mweka Gate
You wake up at Millennium Camp back in the tropical rainforest, feeling the relief of lower altitude and the accomplishment of summiting. A warm breakfast gets served, then the trek down to Mweka Gate at 1,640 meters to officially exit the park. The group gathers to celebrate, you write in the guestbook and share your climbing story, receive your commemorative certificate at the office, and get a transfer back to your hotel.
