Santiago Atitlán
A boat takes you across Lake Atitlán to Santiago Atitlán. There you'll walk through the local market and see how Mayan traditions blend with Christian practices at the church. You'll attend a ceremony with Maximón before heading back to Panajachel by boat.

Chichicastenango to Antigua
You'll travel to Chichicastenango to check out the colorful market with textiles, wooden masks, and produce. After visiting Santo Tomás Church to see the blend of Christian and Mayan beliefs, you'll head to the colonial town of Antigua.

Antigua

Journey to Copán Ruinas
You'll travel through different terrain to reach the Honduras border early in the afternoon. From there, you have time to walk around Copán Ruinas, a small town with local character and history.

Copán Archaeological Site
At the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Copán, you'll see the main ruins and tombs. The famous staircase with 63 steps holds over 2,500 hieroglyphs, which is the longest Mayan text ever found in one place.

Lake Yojoa and Pulhapanzak Waterfall
You'll drive to Lake Yojoa, Honduras's largest inland lake where over 300 bird species migrate. You'll see Pulhapanzak Waterfall, which drops 43 meters, then explore Rio Lindo tropical canyon. Later you'll reach the visitor center at Azul Meambar National Park.

Azul Meambar National Park
You spend today fully exploring Azul Meambar National Park. The terrain includes mountain rainforests, coffee plantations, pine forests, and cloud forests between 415 and 2,080 meters elevation. You'll hike to cloud forest areas and swim under waterfalls based on your fitness level.

Comayagua to Danlí
You'll travel to Danlí near the Nicaragua border. Along the way, you walk through Taulabeé stalactite caves for about 300 meters seeing stalactites and stalagmites. Then you'll visit Comayagua, the colonial former capital, to see its cathedral with a clock from the year 1,100. Later you drive to Tegucigalpa and Danlí.

Somoto Canyon to León
After crossing into Nicaragua, you'll visit Somoto Canyon, a national park discovered in 2004 with impressive rock formations. You'll drive through Estelí in the northern highlands where tobacco grows, then continue to León, Nicaragua's former capital.

León
Today focuses on León's main sights. You'll see the cathedral and the ruins of León Viejo, the old city outside the current center on Lake Managua. This UNESCO World Heritage Site from the early 16th century was abandoned after an earthquake in 1610.

Managua to Masaya
After breakfast you'll drive to Managua for a short city tour, then head toward Masaya with a stop at Mirador de Caterina viewpoint for views of Apoyo Lagoon, Lake Nicaragua, and Granada. In the evening you'll visit the Masaya Volcano crater to see the volcanic landscape with glowing lava against the night sky.

You'll explore Granada, one of Central America's beautiful colonial cities. If interested, you can take a boat trip to the Isletas, over 360 small islands from an ancient volcano where you might spot monkeys.
