The tour provided lots of variety and was generally fairly active. Our guide Renee was amazing - so articulate, organized, positive and accommodating. We would have enjoyed an extra day in Omatepe and also in San Juan de Sur. Only downside was travellers diarrhea experienced by several in the group.

What our customers ask about Nicaragua Tours & Trips
What can you do for adventure in Nicaragua?
Nicaragua's packed with amazing adventures honestly - you can go volcano boarding down Cerro Negro which is pretty wild or catch some great waves surfing in San Juan del Sur. The twin volcanoes on Ometepe Island Concepción and Maderas are perfect for hiking and you've got to try kayaking through those 360 volcanic islets on Lake Nicaragua it's incredible. One of the coolest things is hiking up to see the glowing lava lake at Masaya Volcano National Park. The Nicaragua Land of Lakes and Volcanoes tour actually takes you to see that lava glow and explore those twin volcanoes on Ometepe.
Want to experience local culture? Where can you do that?
You can join these great chocolate workshops in rural Granada where they show you the whole bean-to-bar process it's fascinating. Masaya's artisan market is perfect for finding unique handmade souvenirs and in San Juan de Oriente which they call a "Pueblo Blanco" because of its white colonial buildings you can learn traditional ceramic making from local families. That Nicaragua Land of Lakes and Volcanoes tour includes one of those chocolate workshops in rural Nicaragua it's really authentic.
What natural areas can you visit outside the cities and how do you get there?
There's Juan Venado Nature Reserve where you can take boat trips to spot crocodiles caiman iguanas and tons of birds. Ometepe Island's really special it's a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve right in Lake Nicaragua you get there by ferry. Mombacho Volcano Nature Reserve is amazing too you ride up in a 4x4 then hike through cloud forest looking for howler monkeys sloths and these unique salamanders. One traveler called Ometepe "beuatiful and unexpected" and you can get there on the ferry with the Nicaragua Best of Nicaragua 6 days tour.
Which places are worth visiting but don't get too crowded?
Selva Negra in Matagalpa's highlands is this amazing coffee plantation and ecolodge that's still pretty quiet. The San Jacinto Mudfields show you Nicaragua's volcanic side without the crowds and Somoto Canyon's incredible it's UNESCO listed and you can explore the riverbed walking and by boat. Ometepe Island's still pretty unexplored one traveler called it "beuatiful and unexpected." You can see Selva Negra and the mudfields on the Nicaragua Land of Lakes and Volcanoes tour it's a great way to experience these hidden spots.
