Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Grand Junction to Moab

You'll start with a 22.3-mile bike ride along the Colorado River Trail in Grand Junction, cycling through the Grand Valley Wine Region where vineyards and red rock formations line the route. Once you finish, there's a 105-minute drive ahead to Moab where you'll check into the Best Western Plus Canyonlands Inn for the next five nights. This gives you the rest of the day to walk around town and get your bearings.

    • Grand Valley Wine Region vineyard views

  2. Day 2

    Moab

This morning you'll ride downstream from Moab to Potash on a flat 20-mile route that follows the Colorado River, then hike out to Corona and Bowtie Arches. After a gourmet lunch, you have options: either ride 20 miles back to town under your own power or hop on a shuttle and spend more time checking out Moab's red rock landscape. Either way, you'll have some afternoon hours to explore.

  3. Day 3

    Arches National Park

You're heading to Delicate Arch, Utah's most-photographed natural arch, which means crossing a suspension bridge over Salt Wash and looking at ancient Ute petroglyphs carved into the rock face. The hike takes you up slickrock slopes until you're standing right under the 80-foot arch itself. On the way back, you'll also hit Landscape Arch, Tunnel Arch, and Pine Tree Arch. Food today is on your own for both lunch and dinner.

At Dead Horse Point, a mesa sitting 2,000 feet above the Colorado River, you get to choose your route. One option is a 34.3-mile bike ride with 2,798 feet of elevation gain on smooth paths and scenic byways, taking in views of the snowcapped La Sal mountains and Canyonlands before cruising 34 miles downhill back to town. Or you can take a shuttle straight to the mesa to explore. Later that evening, there's stargazing time.

In the afternoon, you'll do a raft or kayak trip down the Colorado River, gliding past unusual geological formations with lunch at a ranch along the water.
