Itinerary
- Day 1
Cape Town to Oudtshoorn
You'll start your journey along Route 62, heading through South Africa's wine country toward Robertson Valley. This morning includes a wine and cheese or chocolate tasting at Van Loveren Wines, where you can sample local varieties and pair them with regional products. After that, you'll stop for lunch somewhere near Oudtshoorn before moving on to the Cango Caves for a guided tour through these ancient underground formations. By evening you arrive at Buffelsdrift Game Lodge in the Klein Karoo, where you'll spend the night next to a waterhole, which often brings wildlife right to your accommodation.

Oudtshoorn to Wilderness
If weather cooperates, there's an optional early-morning meerkat safari at Buffelsdrift before you head out. From there you travel to Knysna's waterfront area, which has a nice selection of shops and restaurants along the water. Make sure to visit the Knysna Heads Viewpoint to see the forested mountains and the Indian Ocean stretching out below. You'll have lunch whenever suits you, then spend time walking through Wilderness National Park's trails, which take you through beaches, forests, and fynbos dunes. Later you'll reach your coastal retreat for the evening.

Wilderness to Cape Agulhas
This day focuses on wildlife at Botlierskop Private Game Reserve, which covers 4,200 hectares and offers real chances to see lions, cheetahs, giraffes, zebra, and hippos. You'll ride in a custom 4x4 vehicle with a guide who knows where to find these animals. After a lunch break at the lodge restaurant, you continue south to Cape Agulhas, the southernmost point of Africa where the Indian and Atlantic Oceans actually meet. There's an optional swim in the Atlantic if you're up for it, and then you head back to your coastal retreat before evening.

Cape Agulhas to Cape Town
After breakfast you head toward Hermanus, a destination known for whale watching opportunities. The morning involves walking along cliffside paths through fynbos vegetation, stopping at viewpoints that look out over the water where whales often pass. If you're there during the season (June through November), there's an optional whale cruise for closer views of southern right and humpback whales. Outside that season, you can explore local galleries and cafes instead. Lunch is at your own pace at waterfront restaurants, then you drive back via Clarence Drive, which offers sweeping views of False Bay. You'll arrive back in Cape Town in the early evening.
