The island sits right on the Arctic Circle, and you'll participate in a special ceremony marking that crossing, which is something most people never experience. The Orbis et Globus sculpture marks the circle's location. The main draw here is seeing the Atlantic puffin colonies during breeding season, with thousands nesting on the island's cliffs.

There are hot tubs where you can soak while scanning the Arctic waters for seabirds and marine life. You can spend time in the Explorer Lounge and Bar socializing with other passengers. The Expedition Team runs lectures throughout the day covering local history, geology, and Arctic wildlife, so there's plenty to learn if you're interested.

Jan Mayen
Jan Mayen is one of Earth's most isolated places, and you're on one of the few expedition ships that even attempts to land here. The landscape looks surreal with moss and lichen covering the volcanic slopes, and Beerenberg dominates the skyline as the world's northernmost active volcano (it last erupted in 1985). You'll spot northern fulmars, Brünnich's guillemots, and little auks nesting on the cliffs and rocky areas.

Head to the Science Center where the Expedition Team discusses Arctic wildlife and scenery from previous stops and talks about what's coming up in Svalbard. This is when you can sort through all the photos you've taken and get some tips from the professional photographer on board about composition and lighting for Arctic shooting.
