- Day 1
Marrakech
Land in Marrakech and take time to get your bearings around Jemaa el-Fna Square, the heart of the medina. You can hop in a caliche (horse-drawn carriage) and wind through the medieval streets, checking out the old fondouks and the Koutoubia Mosque with its surrounding gardens. By evening, the square really transforms with musicians, snake charmers, and food vendors setting up. Grab some street food or find a rooftop cafe overlooking it all to watch the crowds and energy build throughout the night.

- Day 2
Marrakech
Start with a guided tour of Ben Youssef Madrasa, a 16th-century Islamic school with intricate carved cedar, plasterwork, and tile mosaics throughout. Walk through the prayer hall and check out where students used to live. After that, head to Dar Di Said Museum to see traditional Moroccan textiles, clothing, and jewelry. By afternoon, navigate the souks yourself—wander through spice markets at Souk el Attarin, browse traditional babouches at Souk Smata, and stop by Souk des Teinturiers where leather workers still dye hides the old way.

- Day 3
Marrakech to Amizmiz
Travel about an hour south to Amizmiz, a small town nestled in the High Atlas foothills. Explore the local market first, then start hiking with a mountain guide through narrow village paths and mule tracks into the surrounding hills. Visit a few Berber settlements where you'll see daily life—farmers tending fields and shepherds with their flocks. Around midday, stop at a local family's home and learn to make bread together before having lunch. Continue trekking through the afternoon and finish at another Berber home where you'll have dinner and sleep.

- Day 4
Amizmiz to Marrakech
Eat breakfast with your hosts, then spend the morning hiking before making your way back down to Marrakech. Later, head to the kasbah area south of the main square. Visit the Saadian Tombs to see 500-year-old architectural details and craftsmanship, then walk through the sunken gardens at El Badi Palace. From there, wander into the Mellah, the historic Jewish quarter, and finish up at the 19th-century Bahia Palace with its impressive courtyards and rooms.

- Day 5
Marrakech to Essaouira
After breakfast, head west toward the coast and Essaouira, passing through open farmland and argan forests where you might see goats climbing the trees to eat the fruit. If you're interested, stop at an Argan Oil Cooperative to see how locals process the oil by hand. Once you reach laid-back Essaouira, explore the medina streets at your own pace, rent a horse and ride along the beach, take a kitesurfing or surfing lesson if you want action, or walk the 18th-century Skala seafront with its brass cannons and ocean views. Jimi Hendrix enthusiasts can visit Diabat village. End the day with fresh fish for dinner.

- Day 6
Essaouira to Marrakech
Spend your morning on Essaouira's crescent beach watching windsurfers and surfers, or try a lesson yourself. Then drive back to Marrakech. Depending on your flight departure time, you can fit in a visit to the 12th-century Almoravid Koubba, the only remaining Almoravid structure in the city, or check out the Marrakech Museum inside the 19th-century Dar Mnebbi Palace, which has a solid collection of contemporary and traditional Berber and Moroccan artwork.
