Itinerary
- Day 1
Arrival in Vientiane
You'll land in Vientiane and get transferred to your hotel in the city center. The capital has a really interesting mix of influences from Lao, Thai, Chinese, Vietnamese, French, and American cultures all blended together. Once you've checked in, the rest of the day is yours to wander around and get a feel for the place at your own pace.

- Day 2
Vientiane to Luang Prabang
After breakfast, you'll see Vientiane's main attractions starting with Wat Sisaket temple, which has thousands of small Buddha statues inside, then head to the royal Wat Prakeo temple and the sacred That Luang Stupa. The Patuxay Monument is next on your list. Before lunch, check out the Morning Market for antiques and textiles. Later you'll fly to Luang Prabang and climb Mount Phousi to catch the sunset with views over the city and the Mekong River. By evening, walk through the Night Market to see local textiles and get a taste of what's available.

- Day 3
Mekong River Cruise
Start with breakfast and then take a guided tour of the city's oldest temples, including Wat Visoun, Wat Aham, Wat Mai, and Wat Sene. Wat Xiengthong is particularly notable with its distinctive sweeping roofs. From there, board a Mekong River cruise heading upstream to reach the Pak Ou Caves, which contain thousands of gold lacquered Buddha statues. The cruise continues through Ban Xanghai village where they make local rice wine, and you'll also pass through Ban Xiengmene and Ban Chan. You'll see Wat Longkhoun, the royal temple, and finish at Ban Phanom village, which is known for hand weaving.

- Day 4
Departure
There's an optional early morning opportunity to participate in the alms-giving ritual where saffron-clad monks receive offerings, a distinctive Buddhist tradition in Laos. After breakfast, visit the National Museum, which is housed in the former Royal Palace and displays artifacts showing Lao culture and history. Spend time at the silversmith workshops and the Fine Arts School before browsing the Central Market. You'll depart after that to head out of this ancient city.
