Itinerary
- Day 1
Palermo
You'll land at Palermo Airport and pick up your rental car, then head to your hotel to settle in. Once you're checked in, the afternoon is yours to walk through some of Palermo's Norman sites. The Capella Palatina has those intricate Arab and Byzantine mosaics that really show the mixed cultural influences here. From there, you can see the Cathedral with its blend of Roman, Byzantine, and Islamic architectural styles. Finish off at La Martorana Church, which is another nice example of Norman design from this period.

Inside the cathedral there's a lot to take in, and the adjoining cloisters have that Arab-influenced detail work that's really worth seeing. If the clock tower is open when you visit, climbing up gives you good views over the surrounding area. Before driving back to Palermo, grab a coffee at one of the cafes around the main square.
