Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Samut Songkhram to Kanchanaburi

    You'll get picked up from your hotel and head to Samut Songkhram to see the Train Market at Maeklong Train Station, where it's quite a sight watching vendors quickly clear their goods as the train rolls through. After that, you'll stop at a local sugar factory to watch how they make sugar from coconut trees. Then comes a long-tail boat ride through Damnoen Saduak floating market where you can try Thai desserts and local coffee. By afternoon you're traveling to Kanchanaburi Province to check out the Bridge over the River Kwai and Tham KraSae cave. The day ends with a scenic train ride along the old Death Railway with those wooden viaducts, finishing up at Tha Kilen Station.

  2. Day 2

    Kanchanaburi to Ayutthaya

    Starting after breakfast, you'll head to an elephant camp where you can feed and wash the elephants in their natural setting (the washing part is up to you). From there it's on to the Erawan Waterfall, a series of seven different waterfalls with colorful pools and interesting limestone rock formations. You'll then travel to Suphanburi Province to visit Wat Pa Lelai, an ancient royal temple that's around 800 years old, where you'll see the 23-meter-tall seated Buddha statue called Luang Pho To and learn about Buddhist offerings. By evening you're heading to Ayutthaya for an overnight stay.

  3. Day 3

    Ayutthaya to Sukhothai

    After breakfast and checking out, you'll explore Ayutthaya, Thailand's former capital. You'll see the ancient ruins at Viharn Mongkol Bophit and Wat Phra Sri Sanphet, the first temple built there over 600 years ago. A stop at a local market lets you see traditional Ayutthaya-style desserts like the famous Roti Saimai cotton candy. Then you're visiting Wat Mahathat with its crumbling stupas and rows of headless Buddha statues, including the one stuck in a tree trunk. Next you travel to Sukhothai Province to explore the UNESCO Historical Park, checking out Wat Mahathat, Wat Sra Sri, and Wat Sri Sawai temples. After dinner you'll return to the park in the evening for the Loy Krathong Festival experience.

  4. Day 4

    Sukhothai to Chiang Mai

    After breakfast you travel to Lampang Province to visit Wat Phra That Lampang Luang, a Lanna temple architecture masterpiece sitting on a hillock with walls around it and elaborate plaster entrance arches. You'll see the bronze Buddha statue Phra Chao Lan Thong and the golden Chedi with its Lanna style, plus another Vihan with beautiful wooden wall murals. That afternoon you drive to Chiang Mai to see Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep, the golden temple with fantastic views over the province. You'll do a street food tour in Chiang Mai to really understand Thai cooking, then check in at your hotel. The evening wraps up with a Khantoke Dinner at the Cultural Center and the Yi Peng Festival.

  5. Day 5

    Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai

    You start after breakfast at an orchid farm with lots of different orchid varieties on display. Then it's off to hill tribe villages to experience the cultures of the Akha, Palong, Karen, Lahu, Lisu, and long neck tribes, each with their own traditional dress and languages. You'll continue to San Kamphaeng Village to see handcrafted items like silk, silver, and lacquer work. On the way to Chiang Rai Province you stop at Mae Kajan hot springs to soak your feet in the thermal waters. You'll arrive in Chiang Rai for check-in and dinner.

    Chiang Rai to Golden Triangle

    After breakfast you travel to the Golden Triangle where Thailand, Burma, and Laos all meet at their borders. You'll do a short hike up to Phrathat Phu Khao Temple for panoramic views of the Golden Triangle, then visit the Opium House Museum to learn about the history of opium. A long-tail boat takes you down the Mae-Khong River where you'll cross into Laos and check out the market at Don Sao Island. Back in Thailand you explore Wat Rong Khun Temple, the famous white temple with its distinctive glass pieces. After sightseeing, you head to Chiang Rai Airport for departure.
