Itinerary
- Day 1
Paro to Thimphu
You'll arrive in Paro and connect with your guide, then drive to Thimphu for hotel check-in. The afternoon takes you to the National Memorial Chorten, followed by the Takin Preserve where you'll see Bhutan's rare national animal up close. From there, head to Tashichhoe Dzong, the historic fortress, and finish at the Craft Bazaar to see local artisans at work with traditional Bhutanese pieces.

- Day 2
Thimphu
Start early at Kuensel Phodrang to see the tallest Buddha statue in Bhutan with views sweeping across Thimphu Valley. Next, the Institute for Zorig Chusum lets you watch students learning traditional arts and crafts firsthand. The Folk Heritage Museum comes next, housed in a restored 19th-century farmhouse showing how rural Bhutanese lived. Changangkha Lhakhang temple sits on a ridge and offers good views, then wrap up at the Weekend Market where you'll find locals shopping and selling everything from vegetables to textiles.

Thimphu to Gangtey / Phobjikha Valley
Drive up to Dochula Pass at 3,088m/10,131ft where 108 chortens stand in rows with panoramic mountain views. On clear days you might spot Gangkar Puensum, Bhutan's highest peak. Next, visit Rinchengang Village in Wangduephodrang, then drive through oak and rhododendron forests heading to Gangtey Valley. Gangtey Goemba monastery sits perched on a hilltop overlooking the valley, and you'll finish at the Black Necked Crane Information Centre at Phobjikha where seasonal birds gather.

Gangtey / Phobjikha Valley to Bumthang
Head to the festival venue area. Visit Mebartsho (The Burning Lake), a sacred pilgrimage site where locals float butter lamps and make wishes at a narrow gorge formed by the Tang River. Rock carvings of Pema Lingpa and his two sons mark this spiritual location. Later, check out the Swiss Farm and Red Panda Beer Factory, a family-run operation making Swiss cheeses, honey, cider, wine, and local draft beer.

Bumthang to Punakha
Drive to Punakha and settle into your hotel. Visit Chhimi Lhakhang, the Divine Madman's Monastery, which is known for its fertility shrine and unique history. Then explore Punakha Dzong, an island fortress built in 1637 sitting between two rivers. The woodwork inside is exceptional, and it functions as both the religious and administrative center for the region.

Punakha
Take a short hike to Khamsum Yuelley Namgel Chorten, built to remove negative forces and promote peace with commanding views of the upper Punakha Valley. After lunch, hike to Limbukha village crossing a 200m suspension bridge with views of Punakha Dzong and the rivers below. You'll explore the farm homes scattered through the village and learn about Limbukha's famous red rice and quiet traditions.

Punakha to Paro
Drive to Paro and check in at your hotel. After lunch, visit Rinpung Dzong built in 1646, entering through Nemi Zam, a traditional covered bridge. Explore Ta Dzong, a former 17th-century watch tower that now houses the National Museum with art collections, religious paintings, relics, and Bhutan's stamps. Spend the evening walking around Paro town and getting your bearings in the area.

- Day 9
Paro
Hike to Taktshang Lhakhang (Tiger's Nest), the famous monastery perched 900m above the Paro valley. Legend says Guru Rinpoche arrived here on a tigress to meditate at this sacred site, and though fire damaged it in 1998, it's been fully restored. Lunch happens at Tiger's Nest Cafe partway through the day. After coming back down, visit a traditional Bhutanese farm house to see how people live and understand the local architecture.
