Itinerary
- Day 1
Johannesburg to Mapungubwe
You'll drive north from Johannesburg toward Polokwane, heading into Limpopo Province with the Soutpansberg Mountains coming into view along the way. The route takes you through scenic country, and you'll want to stop in Alldays to pick up snacks and water before tackling the final 80km stretch. After arriving at Mapungubwe Gate and settling into Leokwe Rest Camp, the rest of your afternoon is free. Head out at sunset to walk the Treetop Boardwalk and catch the light from up high.

- Day 2
Mapungubwe to Pafuri
Start early with pre-packed coffee from the camp. You'll visit the confluence point first, then do a heritage tour around Mapungubwe before the midday heat kicks in. From there, drive through Musina toward Tshipise, eventually reaching Pafuri Gate to enter Kruger National Park. Once you're settled at Pafuri River Camp, the afternoon is yours to relax. You can try birding, take a walk around camp, or just sit with the river nearby and soak in how quiet it is.

- Day 3
Pafuri
Get going as early as possible from Pafuri River Camp to catch sunrise at Luvuvhu Bridge where the birding is really good that time of morning. Grab breakfast at the Luvuvhu picnic site, then head out on the Thulamela Trail. Spend time exploring around Crooks Corner before moving south to Sirheni Bushveld Camp. Later in the day, take loop drives around Sirheni along the riverbed looking for game, and you might spot elephants or other wildlife coming down to drink.

Sirheni to Johannesburg
Check out early and do one more game viewing session before heading out. You'll exit Kruger through Phalaborwa Gate and drive straight back toward Johannesburg, pulling in around 3 pm. That wraps up your time in both parks, and you'll head home having seen both the heritage side of Mapungubwe and the wildlife in Kruger.
