Itinerary
- Day 1
Salt Lake City
After landing in Salt Lake City from your international flight, you'll meet up with your group at the hotel around 5 p.m. to go over all the trip details and logistics. Dinner tonight is on your own, so you can grab a bite wherever sounds good to you.
- Day 2
Salt Lake City
Start the morning at Salt Lake City's Capitol building, then take a relaxing walk through the Botanical Gardens where you might see hummingbirds, rabbits, and lizards. After lunch, head to Antelope Island in the Great Salt Lake for a short hike where antelope, deer, waterfowl, and buffalo roam. If the weather cooperates, you can swim in the salt-rich water (the buoyancy is quite something).

Salt Lake City to Garden City
Begin at the 2002 Olympic Park to visit the Alf Engen Ski Museum and catch a ski jumping training session if one's happening. From there, continue to Fossil Butte National Monument to see rare fossils from prehistoric fish, turtles, and other creatures. Tonight you'll stay in a covered wagon or pioneer log cabin at Conestoga Ranch in Garden City.

Garden City to Jackson
Walk through a nature reserve with many bird species, then check out Soda Springs to see the geyser and learn about the Oregon Trail's history. Depending on the season, stop by Blackfoot Reservoir to spot pelicans and Sandhill cranes. Finish the day in Jackson, a town filled with galleries, craft stores, and artists who've made it their home.

- Day 5
Jackson to Yellowstone National Park
Stroll through Jackson's streets this morning, then choose between white water rafting or a calmer float trip on the Snake River. Head into Grand Teton National Park with a picnic stop at Jackson Lake. Later, drive into Yellowstone to see geothermal areas near Yellowstone Lake and Old Faithful Geyser. Keep watch for bears, moose, and wolves. You'll stay two nights at a hotel near the park entrance.

Yellowstone National Park
Spend the day in Yellowstone exploring buffalo herds, bears, elk, wolves, and birds throughout the park. Visit Mammoth Hot Springs to see the mineral terraces, then check out Norris Geyser Basin with Steamboat Geyser (the world's highest). Head to Old Faithful Geyser Basin and listen for bison herds moving through the landscape.

- Day 7
Yellowstone National Park to Cody
Head to Lamar Valley to search for bison, wolves, and prairie dogs in their natural setting. See Tower Falls where water drops dramatically into the canyon. If weather allows, drive over Dunraven Pass for mountain views. Walk through Hayden Valley and visit the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone with its 90-meter waterfall. Travel along Yellowstone Lake and through Shoshone Valley before arriving in Cody.

- Day 8
Cody
Take a four-wheel drive into mustang territory to see wild horses descended from Spanish explorer-introduced horses from the 1600s. Visit the Buffalo Bill Historical Center, which has five different museums covering Wild West history and culture. Spend the evening and night in Cody.

Cody to Sheridan
Drive through the prairie outside Cody and into the Bighorn Mountains, where massive moose roam (they can reach 700 kg/1540 lbs). During a mountain hike along a lake, have a relaxed picnic in quiet surroundings. If weather permits, visit the Medicine Wheel, a sacred indigenous site sitting at 3,000 meters/9,843 feet. End your day in historic Sheridan, a town that still has its Wild West character.

Sheridan to Deadwood
Visit Fort Phil Kearny on the historic Bozeman Trail to learn about its role protecting settlers heading to Montana. Take a short hike past a prairie dog settlement, then reach Devil's Tower, the first national monument in the USA (formed around 50 million years ago). Walk closer for great views and photos. Finish in Deadwood, the gold mining town where Calamity Jane and Bill Hickok lived and are buried.

- Day 11
Deadwood to Wall
See two major rock monuments starting with the Crazy Horse Monument, begun in 1948 and still under construction (will be 172 meters/564 feet high when done). Visit Mount Rushmore with the carved heads of Washington, Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Lincoln (created 1927-1941). Stop at Custer State Park to spot bison, wild turkeys, deer, and wild donkeys. Take a short hike around a silver lake surrounded by granite. Stay two nights in rustic log cabins in Wall.

- Day 12
Wall and Badlands National Park
Start at the National Grasslands Visitor Center in Wall, then visit the Lakota Indian Museum to learn about Lakota culture and history (if it's open). Head to Badlands National Park where you'll find bison, prairie dogs, pronghorn antelope, and bighorn sheep despite the park's name. The landscape has mineral-colored rocks and formations created around 70 million years ago across 240,000 acres. Take several short walks through this natural landscape, great for photography.

- Day 13
Badlands to Lusk
Begin in Hot Springs at an excavation site of mammoths from around 26,000 years ago, including a skeleton nicknamed Napoleon Bone-apart. Continue into Nebraska through Oglala National Grassland, home to pronghorn antelope and birds of prey. Visit Fort Robinson State Park, a former military base that was the world's largest military stud farm during World War I. Drive through a canyon on a scenic route before arriving in Lusk.

Lusk to Denver
Tour Fort Laramie, an important military post during westward expansion, then stop at Register Cliff where Oregon Trail immigrants carved their names starting in 1850. Explore Cheyenne, Wyoming's capital (60,000 people), which keeps its small-town charm and Wild West feel. Wrap up your trip with a farewell dinner in Denver to celebrate your journey through the American West (dinner at your own expense).

Salt Lake City
This is your last day in the USA. Before heading to the airport, you've got time to walk around the city, pick up any souvenirs you want, or just spend some time outside. You'll need to arrange your own transport to the airport for your departure flight.

Return Home
