- Lesa· August 15th, 2024World Unite Japan is an amazing organization! I had a truly wonderful, enriching, and meaningful experience. Our leaders, Summer and Hitoki, were outstanding. They created an inclusive and welcoming atmosphere and arranged volunteer projects that immersed us in the culture and ecosystems of Sado Island. I will always remember the friendships I made with our leaders and other volunteers. This was an life-changing experience. I highly recommend it! LesaShow more

Asked on May 8th, 2025I want to do this next year (2026) starting in February, when will I be able to apply for that?
- World Unite Japan KKOperator•Written May 2025
It will definitely be possible for you to start this program in February 2026. We have not yet published our 2026 start dates for this program, but we will discuss them in our team tomorrow (Tuesday) and will then publish them on tourradar so that you can make your booking.

Asked on April 19th, 2025Could you give us more information: - how long do each cooking class last? Where do they take place? What is the program? - is it possible to take only the cooking class? - how are the days organised (between Japanese lessons and cooking class)? - what is the academic program of the Japanese lessons? - where is the shared house? By how many people is it shared?
- World Unite Japan KKOperator•Written April 2025
Each cooking lesson takes approximately 90 minutes, followed by eating the meals you created for around one hour. The lessons are provided in Omiya (Saitama), which is around 40 minutes by train from Tokyo central train Station. Yes, you can book the cooking lessons only. You can also complete the 8 lessons within 2 weeks rather than 4 weeks, if you prefer. The general Japanese lessons are from 9am to 12:30pm Monday to Friday. The cooking lessons are in the afternoons. The language lessons focus on general conversation. You will learn hiragana and katakana and general simple conversation in everyday and work situation. The house is located near Kiba Station with around 50 participants on three floors with shared kitchens and bathrooms.

Asked on April 3rd, 2025What is the possible visa options for my nationality?
- World Unite Japan KKOperator•Written April 2025
We can arrange a 90 days business visa for you at an extra charge of 200 USD.

Ron
Traveler•Written April 2025Does the program provide assistance in obtaining the visa, or will I need to apply on my own? If a visa is required, can you help me understand the application process and the required documentation?
- World Unite Japan KKOperator•Written April 2025
We would provide the documents needed from Japan for the visa application. You would then use these papers to apply for the visa at the Japanese Embassy in the Philippines. Once you have our documents, it typically takes around 2 weeks to get the visa. We will guide you through the process.

Asked on February 28th, 2025I'm really interested by your course and have some questions. I'm more interested by your 31 march session, but need to redo my passport and I'm not sure it will be ready for that date. I wanted to know if it's possible to decide which restaurant we prefer for the stage and if it's possible during the 2 months to do 2 different one ? or do we have to stay in only one ? Although, if a relative is visiting, are we allowed to host him?
- World Unite Japan KKOperator•Written March 2025
We will suggest to you some restaurant options, e.g. ramen, sushi, yakitori, seafood, Japanese-French fusion cuisine and we would assign a restaurant to you then. It would be only one restaurant, as the minimum duration of an internship restaurants usually agree on is 8 weeks. Most of the restaurants are on Sado Island, which is famous in Japan for its food. Lots of Japanese domestic tourists travel to Sado specifically for culinary experiences. If your relative visits during the first month (while you are in Tokyo, joining the cooking lessons and language lessons), your relative can just book accommodation at our sharehouse. If your relative visits during your 8 weeks at the restaurant location, we would have to ask the landlord who is renting out the accommodation to you. It should be possible; they might charge a little extra though.

Traveler•Written March 2025Ok perfect. The internship, is it really one where we will be able to practice ? Because I'm really interested about this experience so I have a professionnal japanese cooking experience and learn a lot of things
- World Unite Japan KKOperator•Written March 2025
Yes, of course! It is the purpose of an internship to get practical experience! You will be in the kitchen of a professional Japanese restaurant where you can observe, assist and learn from the head chef.

Asked on December 19th, 2024What is the estimated budget for meals during the program?
- World Unite Japan KKOperator•Written December 2024
You should plan for around 400-500 USD per month for food if you cook on your own, or occasionally eat out.

Lydia
Asked on December 15th, 2024Is it possible to have a photo and a Zoom call with the host family?
- World Unite Japan KKOperator•Written December 2024
after you have done your booking, we would ask you to fill a form where you can specify some preferences and provide some information about yourself. Host families would then choose you as their guest. We would then share the profile of the host family with you, which includes their contact information.

Asked on December 6th, 2024Is there an option to make sure that the work-placement is no longer than four hours a day, Or to completely exclude?
- World Unite Japan KKOperator•Written December 2024
It is actually also possible to increase the intensity, which means do more than 2 lessons of cooking lessons per week (up to 5x per week). Any additional lesson would be 90 CAD.

Asked on November 15th, 2024Is it possible to get more information about the program before to book? Could I get more information about the accommodation in Tokyo, homestay and shared flat? When do I have to pay? How can I choose the place (City and restaurant) where I'll work for two months? What kinf of visa is needed? Will I earn some money during my time in the restaurant? Is it possible to shorten the journey (1 month of lesson & 1 month in a restaurant)? Is there something like a diploma or certificate at the end of the program?
- World Unite Japan KKOperator•Written November 2024
The sharehouse accommodation is similar to a student residence. There are dorm rooms and twin rooms, and shared showers and toilets and kitchen space. As a French citizen, you don't need a visa. You are visa exempted for a stay of up to 90 days (Temporary Visitor Status). The restaurant internship is unpaid. Yes, you can shorten and do only 1 month at the restaurant. You can deduct 250 EUR from the package rate in this case. Yes, we issue a Certificate, confirming the participation in the program.

Traveler•Written November 2024Is it possible to do the internship in a tropical island, is it Okinawa? When do we have to choose the restaurant for the internship? How could I choose the speciality of the restaurant (I would like a ramen restaurant)? Is it possible to have some information and choice before to engage? Same for the family stay, do we have the choice of the place, the family?
- World Unite Japan KKOperator•Written November 2024
Ramen Restaurant we can offer on Sado Island. If you choose host family accommodation during your time in Tokyo (one month), we would assign a family to you. You cannot choose the family. Those are all families that have hosted foreign guests before, belonging to the middle class.

Traveler•Written November 2024Does it mean that I can't get more information than I can find on your website before i book? Is it possible to communicate with our personnal mail address? Ramen restaurants are only on Sado Island? What kind of restaurant is there on Okinawa? It means I won't have choice of the family I could be hosted by? How this choice will be done? Should I give you some wishes (area-with/without kids...)?
- World Unite Japan KKOperator•Written November 2024
The island I was referring to was not Okinawa, but Ishigaki. The restaurant we cooperate with there is the restaurant of a beach resort and they offer all kind of Japanese cuisine, and Japanese-international fusion cuisine. We don't have a specific Ramen restaurant there. We currently only have a Ramen restaurant on Sado. There is an online form I can share with you where you can specify preferences about the host family, but not all options are always available.
