Itinerary
- Day 1
Kathmandu to Lukla to Phakding
An early pickup takes you from your hotel to Tribhuvan International Airport for the scenic 30-45 minute flight down to Lukla. After settling in and refreshing at a local hotel, you'll start trekking through the Pasang Lhamu Sherpa Memorial gate, walking past Thalsaroa and Cheplung village where you get your first glimpses of Mt Khumbila and Kusum Kangaru. The path continues through Ghat and down to Phakding for the night.

Phakding to Namche Bazaar
Today covers about 11km through several Sherpa villages: Rimi Jung, Zamfute, Benkar, and Chhamuwa. You'll walk alongside the Dudh Koshi River through forests, passing prayer wheels, stupas, and Buddhist shrines along the way. Donkey and yak caravans move through carrying goods, and after Monjo village, you enter Sagarmatha National Park where the terrain gets steeper before reaching Namche Bazaar.

Namche Bazaar
This is your acclimatization day in Namche Bazaar, so the schedule stays flexible based on how you're feeling. Optional side trips include the Sagarmatha Museum or Everest View Hotel if you want mountain views, or you could hike to Khumjung Hillary School, the Yeti monastery, Sherpa Cultural Museum, or Khunde Hillary hospital. The town itself has restaurants, shops, and lodges to explore, and resting at your lodge is equally valid.

Namche Bazaar to Tengboche
A 9km uphill trek from Namche through zigzag trails and villages like Kyangjuma, Lawichasa, Tashinga, and Sansa. Look for Himalayan Thar, blue sheep, musk deer, and colorful Danfe pheasants along the way. Forests of juniper, rhododendron, and birch line the path with views of AmaDablam. Lunch happens at Phunki Thanga village, then you continue through dense forest for roughly 3 hours to reach Tengboche and its famous monastery.

Tengboche to Dingboche
An 8km day starting on a stone-paved trail to Debuche where you can visit the Deboche Nunnery and see its Thanka and mural paintings. A suspension bridge crosses the Imja River, then you reach Pangboche, the last permanent Sherpa farm village on this route. Following the left side of the Imja river through rocky terrain with moraine boulders, the trail climbs steeply to Dingboche.

Dingboche
Your second acclimatization day in Dingboche, a traditional Sherpa village with great views of Lhotse, Island Peak, and Ama Dablam. An optional hike to NangkarTshang Peak on the northern ridge takes 4-5 hours and shows you Island Peak, Thamserku, AmaDablam, and Mt Makalu. If you'd rather take it easy, resting at your lodge or wandering the village works fine, especially for catching the late evening light.

Dingboche to Lobuche
After breakfast, trek 7km through rocky boulders to Dusa, then ascend to Dughla via the Khumbu Khola valley. Mountain views include Mt Pumori, Taboche, Cholatse, AmaDablam, Khumbutse, and Lhotse. You'll see Chola lake along the way. At Dughla, you climb the steep terminal of the Khumbu Glacier where stone memorials honor climbers who died, then continue roughly an hour to Lobuche.

Lobuche to Gorak Shep and Everest Base Camp
A long 8-9 hour day covering 14km round trip. An early start means a 3-hour hike from Lobuche to Gorak Shep, the last settlement on this trail, walking through narrow mountain gaps alongside the Khumbu glacier. The Glass Pyramid meteorological station is worth checking out. If weather cooperates, continue 2-3 more hours to Everest Base Camp for views of the Khumbu Glacier, Icefall, and frozen lakes before heading back to Gorak Shep.

Gorak Shep to Kala Patthar and Pheriche
Starting before dawn, you hike to Kala Patthar at 5,545m for the highest viewpoint of this trek. The 360-degree views at sunrise show Mt Everest, Mt Nuptse, Mt Lhotse, Mt Pumori, and Mt Ama Dablam. After taking in the panorama, you hike back to Gorak Shep for breakfast, then retrace your steps to Pheriche. The HRA office in Pheriche offers health services and AMS counseling if needed during peak season.

Pheriche to Namche Bazaar
A 17km downhill trek over 7-8 hours takes you back to Namche Bazaar. The route descends through Orso, Somare, and Pangboche village, then follows the west bank of the Imja river. After crossing the Imja Khola bridge, you climb back into the tree line at Debuche and Tengboche, then descend to Phunki Thenga before a final climb to Sansa. From there the trail gets easier into Namche where you can grab a hot shower, relax, or check out cafes and bars.

Namche Bazaar to Lukla
The 19km descent back to Lukla takes 8-9 hours over steep terrain. Starting from Namche Hill, the trail drops toward Jorsaley National Park borders. You'll cross the Dudh Koshi River and pass through forest scenery before reaching Monjo. After exiting Sagarmatha National Park, continue through Phakding and on to Lukla for your final night. This is your last day with trekking staff, so tip them if you wish.

Lukla to Kathmandu
An early morning flight takes you back to Kathmandu, covering 138km in about 45 minutes with last views of the Khumbu region during the flight. Once the plane lands at Kathmandu airport, a transfer gets you to your hotel. The rest of your day is open, so you could explore Kathmandu city, relax at the hotel, or try one of the many restaurants, cafes, and bars around town.
