Itinerary
- Day 1
Kathmandu to Bhadrapur to Taplejung
You'll fly from Kathmandu to Bhadrapur, taking in views of Nepal's eastern hills along the way. From there, a car or jeep ride through tea gardens takes about 8 hours to reach Taplejung. You'll stop in Illam's tea gardens for lunch during the drive, so you get a real sense of the region's main crop before arriving for the night.

- Day 2
Taplejung to Ranipul
After breakfast, the trek starts from Mitlung or Sinuwa with a suspension bridge crossing. You'll descend down to the Tamor River and walk through local villages and terraced fields where you can interact with people living there. The route then climbs gradually through more terraced areas and houses before reaching Ranipul for an overnight stop.

Ranipul to Amjilosa
This day involves multiple suspension bridge crossings back and forth over Ghunsa Khola. The trail then narrows and gets steeper as you climb the slopes, eventually bringing you to Amjilosa for the night. It's a bit of a workout with all the elevation gain.

Amjilosa to Higher Altitude
You're trekking through thick forests today with rhododendron and oak trees dominating the landscape. Several waterfalls appear along the route, and small mountain villages sit peacefully in the valleys below. Watch for eagles overhead, yaks in green pastures, and various wildlife on the slopes and in the trees.

- Day 5
Trek to Ghunsa via Phalle
The trek heads toward Phalle, a Tibetan refugee village where you can explore and see the local monastery. After lunch, you'll make a steady uphill trek to Ghunsa, which has good views out over the surrounding terrain and countryside. The climb is gradual but steady.

Ghunsa (Rest Day)
This is a rest day in Ghunsa to let your body adjust to the higher altitude. Spend time walking around the small village and learning about traditional hand-made carpet making by locals. You can also visit the local gompa, which sits in an alpine setting with interesting cultural features to discover.

Ghunsa to Khambachen
Starting after breakfast, you trek through green forests that gradually transition to frost-colored alpine plants as the elevation increases. You'll pass under Jannu peak and climb steadily through scenic terrain toward the upper glacial valleys in the Kanchenjunga region. Khambachen is your destination for the night.

Khambachen to Lhonak
This is a challenging day, so an early start is necessary. You'll trek along the riverbank past rocky fields and boulders to reach a waterfall, then cross a bridge to Ramtang monastery. A landslide section requires careful navigation, after which you descend back to the river and reach Lhonak for the night.

Lhonak to Tengkoma Peak Base Camp
You're heading to Tengkoma Peak Base Camp at 5500 meters. The route follows a rocky ridge with a gradual climb up to a good camping site. Along the way, you'll see the Kanchenjunga Himalaya Range and the high valleys around it. Once there, the Sherpa team will set up camp and check on everyone's health and gear.

Tengkoma Peak Summit Climb
An early morning start is critical for the summit attempt of Tengkoma Peak. You're now acclimatized and ready, and getting an early start helps you avoid strong afternoon winds. Expert climbers will guide you through technical sections to the summit. From the top, you'll see Kanchenjunga, Makalu, Everest, and other snow-covered peaks before heading back down to base camp.

Tengkoma Peak Base Camp to Ghunsa
You'll descend from Lhonak all the way back to Ghunsa by retracing the route you took on the way up. The trek passes through Phalle, the Tibetan refugee village, following the same path taken during the ascent.

Ghunsa to Amjilosa
From Ghunsa village, the trek continues past Mani walls and monasteries down through Phale. You'll cross the Chhundatangka river, which has waterfalls and streams nearby, then cross the Sumbung river. The route ends at Amjilosa for an overnight stay.

Amjilosa to Ranipul
This is the final trekking day in remote eastern Nepal. You'll walk through Solima village and cross the Ghunsa river to Sukathum, then continue through terraced farmland and scattered settlements. Ranipul is your destination for the night.

Ranipul to Illam
The private jeep leaves Taplejung Bazaar and drives through cardamom gardens and rice paddies, giving you a look at how Nepali people live and work. After about 6 hours, you'll reach Illam Bazaar. The area is known for producing tea, cardamom, ginger, ghee, and chilies. You'll stay overnight and have time to look around the bazaar.

Illam to Bhadrapur to Kathmandu
Driving from Illam to Bhadrapur takes you through tea gardens and small towns like Kanyam. The scenery includes tea garden views and scenes of daily Nepali life. You'll pass Fickal Bazaar or Kanya, which has varieties of tea and local products if you want to pick up anything. From Bhadrapur airport, you'll fly back to Kathmandu.
