Itinerary
- Day 1
Sedona Trailhead to Dry Creek Canyon
You'll start with a 30-45 minute shuttle ride out to the trailhead where your Sedona hiking adventure begins. The day involves an 8-mile hike through red rock terrain with panoramic views across the Red Rock Secret Mountain Wilderness. You'll travel along remote 4x4 roads with Thunder Mountain and Brins Mesa visible throughout, eventually reaching the base of Lost Wilson Mountain. If you're interested, there's an optional 3.5-mile round trip to Vultee Arch you can add in. After hiking, you'll set up camp for the night in a quiet canyon surrounded by Arizona Cypress trees and towering rock pinnacles.

- Day 2
Secret Canyon
After breakfast and breaking camp, you head out on a 6-mile hike up through a serene canyon bottom where a high desert creekbed may have seasonal water. The trail gets rugged in spots with logs and rocky sections, and you might need to cross the creek depending on conditions. Once you reach the valley head, new trails open up with views in all directions before you descend into Secret Canyon, which is the longest and least explored drainage in the area. You'll hike through tall Ponderosa pine forests and make camp in this remote canyon, with time to explore further if you want after setting up.

Secret Canyon to Sedona
On your final day, you follow Secret Canyon out of the wilderness on a beautiful trail that opens up to reveal red rock buttes and spires as Sedona town comes into view. The route passes by the east face of Maroon Mountain and covers 8.5 miles back to your starting point. From there, a short 30-45 minute shuttle ride takes you back to Sedona and your individual accommodations, wrapping up your 3-day backcountry trip.
