Itinerary
- Day 1
Moshi to Mount Kilimanjaro National Park
You'll drive from Moshi to Mount Kilimanjaro National Park Gate, which takes about 50 minutes and passes through Machame village on the lower slopes. After getting registered, the trek begins through rainforest on a winding trail that climbs up a ridge. Keep in mind the lower sections tend to be muddy and slippery, so watch your footing as you gain elevation through the dense forest.

- Day 2
Mount Kilimanjaro National Park to Shira Campsite
Following breakfast, you'll leave the rainforest behind and keep ascending on a path that crosses a small valley along a steep rocky ridge covered with heather. The route then turns west toward a river gorge. By evening you'll reach Shira campsite where you'll rest, have dinner, and spend the night.

- Day 3
Shira Plateau to Barranco Hut
Starting from Shira Plateau, you'll head east up a ridge and pass the Kibo peak junction before turning southeast toward Lava Tower, sometimes called the 'Shark's Tooth'. After passing the Arrow Glacier junction at 4876m/16,010ft, you'll descend to Barranco Hut at 3860m/12,664ft. Even though you finish at roughly the same elevation where you started, this day matters significantly for acclimatization. You'll rest, eat dinner, and stay overnight at Barranco Hut.

- Day 4
Barranco Camp to Barafu Camp
After breakfast, you'll leave Barranco and tackle the steep Barranco Wall as you move through Karanga Valley, where you'll stop for lunch at 4200m/13,779ft. From there, you'll pass the junction with the Mweka Trail and continue up to Barafu Hut at 4600m/15,092ft. This section completes the South Circuit with views of the summit from different angles. You'll have both Mawenzi and Kibo peaks visible from your position at Barafu, and you'll rest and prepare for the big summit push ahead.

- Day 5
Barafu Camp to Mount Kilimanjaro Summit to Mweka Hut
A very early departure happens between midnight and 2am as you head toward the summit. You'll climb between Rebmann and Ratzel glaciers, moving northwest through heavy scree to reach Stella Point on the crater rim at 5685m/18,652ft. This portion is the most mentally and physically taxing part of the climb. You'll rest briefly at Stella Point to catch the sunrise if weather cooperates, then potentially encounter snow on the final hour to Uhuru Peak, Africa's highest point. After summiting, the descent continues to Mweka Hut campsite with a lunch break at Barafu.

- Day 6
Mweka Hut to Moshi or Arusha
You'll have breakfast and then continue down to Mweka Park Gate to collect your summit certificates. The trail at lower elevations tends to be wet and muddy, so traction can be tricky. From the gate, it's another hour down to Mweka Village where a vehicle will meet you for the drive back to your hotel in Moshi or Arusha. You'll have time to celebrate the achievement and tip your guides and porters for their support throughout the climb.
