Chiemgau
You'll arrive in the Chiemgau region and get settled into your accommodation in either Prien or Bernau. This gives you the evening to rest up before your hiking adventure starts tomorrow. Take time to unpack, grab dinner locally, and get an early night since the first stage begins in the morning.

- Day 2
Prien to Marquartstein
Your first hiking stage starts from Prien am Chiemsee, where you'll walk through several villages while taking in mountain views along the way. The route passes through Bernau, Rottau, Kucheln, and Grassau before finishing in Marquartstein. You'll move through moorland forests and mountain landscapes throughout the day, so bring plenty of water and expect a moderate pace with nice scenery around each turn.

- Day 3
Hochfelln to Ruhpolding
After breakfast, you'll head to Bergen and board the cable car up Hochfelln to get high alpine views without the initial climb. From there, you hike down through mountain pines and alpine meadows, passing by Felln-Alm and Farnboden-Alm along the way. The trail takes you around Reitstein and through a fairytale forest with caves and grottos before descending into Ruhpolding by evening. This day combines cable car access with a rewarding downhill hike through varied terrain.

Ruhpolding to Inzell
This stage connects Ruhpolding and Inzell through the Chiemgau Alps. You'll pass by Rauschberg mountain and reach the beautiful Taubensee lake during your hike. From there, you walk through mountain forests toward Fahrriesboden chapel and the small village of Schmelz before arriving in Inzell. The landscape shifts from high peaks to forested sections, giving you variety throughout the day.

- Day 5
Inzell to Bad Reichenhall
Starting from Inzell (a climatic health resort), you'll hike across moorland and lush meadows toward Weissbach Falls. The route follows the Weissbach river and gorge down to Thumsee, then you ascend Bürgermeisterhöhe above Kirchberg. By late afternoon, you'll reach Bad Reichenhall. This day mixes water features with forest walking and an uphill section toward the end.

Bad Reichenhall to Bischofswiesen
You'll start the day exploring Bad Reichenhall on foot, checking out the old salt works and town pulpit. Then you continue hiking through Bayerisch Gmain, where you'll see brine pipes and other salt-related sights that show the region's history. The trail takes you uphill through forests to Hallthurm, a fortification from 1194, and you'll descend to Bischofswiesen afterward. At the end of the day, you'll take the train back to your Bad Reichenhall accommodation to rest.

- Day 7
Bischofswiesen to Ramsau
In the morning, you'll catch the train to Bischofswiesen and begin your hike through Berchtesgadener Land. The terrain varies quite a bit, with leisurely paths alongside rivers and streams mixed in with steeper climbs like the one up to Mordaualm. By day's end, you'll reach Ramsau. Bring good hiking boots since you'll encounter both flat sections and demanding uphill stretches.

Ramsau to Berchtesgaden
You'll hike along the northern bank of Ramsauer Achen, then ascend past Gerölberg and Söldenkopfl toward Engedey with views of Hochkalter glacier and surrounding peaks. Continue to Grünstein, a panoramic mountain where via ferrata options are available if you want something more technical. From there, you'll descend via Grünsteinhütte and Weiße Wend to Schönau. Finish by taking a public bus from Schönau am Königssee to Berchtesgaden.

- Day 9
Berchtesgaden Departure
This is your departure day from Berchtesgaden. You can head home individually or choose to continue with the 'Salzalpensteig II' tour if you want to extend your hiking adventure. Either way, you'll finish with memories of the Chiemgau region's mountain landscapes and well-maintained trails.
