Arrival in Kanazawa

Kanazawa City Tour
This is a full day exploring Kanazawa. You'll see the geisha districts, walk through the famous Kenroku Gardens, check out Kanazawa Castle, and stop at the bustling Omachi fish market. Lots of cultural and historical sites packed into one day.

Cycling 68km
After a short drive to the coast, you start cycling on a flat path with a nice stretch along the beach. You'll stop at the 2,000-year-old Keta Taisha Shrine and visit Ganmon Cave, a natural sea arch. The last 20 kilometres get hillier as you enter the Noto Peninsula, finishing in Togi Town where a hot spring is waiting at your hotel.

Cycling 64km
You cycle along the Sekinohana coast heading toward Minazuki, then ride along the ocean to the fishing port of Wajima. The rugged coastline and rock formations shaped by wind and waves are impressive along the way. Tonight you'll stay at a traditional ryokan with futon beds and hot spring access, plus a communal dinner with fresh local seafood.

Cycling 92km
Head out early to the Asa-Ichi morning market, which is well-known for lacquerware and seafood. Then you cycle around the tip of Noto, passing terraced rice fields at Senmaida. There's an option to visit Old Tokukuni House, a former feudal lord's residence, and you'll ride past Mitsuke Island before heading into Tsukumo Bay. Your ryokan features hot springs set inside caves with views of the bay.

An easier coastal ride takes you to Notojima Island where you'll spend the day cycling with snow-covered peaks of the Japanese Alps visible in the background. You'll reach Wakura, one of Japan's well-known onsen towns, and check into the Umi to Niji Inn with time to relax in the hot baths that Wakura is known for.

Cycling 73km
You cycle along the beautiful coast from Wakura before turning inland and heading through Kanayamachi to reach Takaoka. This area has traditional warehouses and houses from the Meiji Era and is famous for copperware manufacturing. After checking in, take a short walk to see the National Treasure Zuiryuji Temple and Takaoka's Great Buddha.

Following the bike path along the Oyabe River, you'll reach Zuisen-ji Temple, one of the largest wooden structures in Japan. Then the route heads into the mountains with some challenging climbs. This afternoon you explore Shirakawago, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with gassho zukuris, the distinctive nail-free thatched roof houses. You'll stay in a 200-year-old gassho zukuri and have traditional mountain food at a communal dinner, with an optional hot spring afterward.

Takayama Departure
