- KEKatie· June 15th, 2019I really enjoyed this tour. Got to see most of the highlights of the North Island. Nat is an excellent guide/driver, lots of interesting stories to tell and jokes. I made a lot of friends and really enjoyed staying at Blue Duck Station - its so beautiful and remote. Wouldn't have minded spending an extra day in Wellington but oh well.Show moreStray Travel commented on this reviewThanks, Katie, for sharing your experiences on the North Island with Nat! - Macky· February 11th, 2019Amazing management of the tour from our energetic and charming tour guide, Peaches. We were on time and she gave us all details of what to expect for the day, what time we get to the next destination, and what activities we would avail. She knows a lot of local haunts as well as great recommendations. This was our first time to join a backpacker tour group and sleep in dorm accommodations and we were pleasantly surprised on how easy it was. The tour was an excellent venue to meet great people. There was this one guy in our tour group though, Peter, who was by himself, though I could tell he would have wanted to be included in group huddles. I hoped we reached out and did more in being more inclusiveShow moreTrip date: January 2019
- Alex· October 13th, 2018Good trip with a helpful guide, saw and experienced many beautiful areas in North Island in New Zealand. Will continue using tourradar in the future.Show moreTrip date: August 2018
- Whitney· September 25th, 2018I travelled throughout the North Island with Stray and had the best time! Stray is absolutely perfect for solo travelers as you make an endless amount of friends while amazing the most beautiful places. I gained so much knowledge about all activites, accommodation and destinations we were going to from the driver guide, who was the nicest person. 10/10 would recommemend to everybody, especially for people who are solo travelling since it can be nerve wrecking - Stray will make your time in New Zealand one of a kind! :)Show moreTrip date: August 2018
- SSu· April 13th, 2018We just finished Peter pass few days ago and it was amazing. My bro and I were a bit worry about our parents as they’ve never experienced this type of group tours and staying in remote areas, hostels, hiking, etc. However, they really enjoyed the whole trip. You will definitely see very nice, like-minded and lovely people on the bus and they are amazing. We all get along very well and had the great time. Our tour guide/driver, Mozzy is amazing. My mom normally gets car sick, but with his amazing driving skill, she was perfectly fine for the whole trip. He’s really relax and on time person, which we really appreciate. Also, he helped out and drove us few places as mom got knees problem and she couldn’t participate in Alpine crossing. We had fun, relax and party sometimes and parents really enjoyed the whole trip even this is mostly for younger people. Accommodation was good, they help us to get our own room most of the time. Parents already share their experience with stray to their Burmese friends :) We will definitely come back and do the South Island next year.Show moreStray Travel commented on this reviewKia Ora Su! Wow, thanks for the awesome review! Love that you were able to Stray with your whole family and we agree that Mozzie is a brilliant driver and guide :) We cannot wait to have you back to see the South Island with us!Trip date: April 2018

Asked on February 24th, 2025I would like to know if it is possible to attend a tour which is from age 17 and above if we are 16. So I am 17 years old, but I want to do it with two friends who both are 16 years and will turn 17 shortly after.
- Stray TravelOperator•Written February 2025
Yes, we are able to take 16 year olds on the tour, however we would need written confirmation from the travellers parents/ guardian advising that they do give them permission to be on the tour. We would also need to contact the parents too. On our tours, although they do not focus on partying/ drinking etc, we also cannot control what each individual does on our tours and therefore there is the chance that they will be around alcohol. We fully expect all travellers on the tour to abide by the legal laws of New Zealand too and that these 3 underage travellers would respect and obey these laws. The travellers would also need to travel with a signed letter from their parents/ guardians and be prepared to show this to any accommodations or activity providers who ask to see the document. Its also good to note, that they will be staying in dorm room style accommodation (sharing with other travellers of mixed gender & age), so we would need their parents/ guardians to acknowledge they are okay with this too. With this all being said, as long as they could get that written consent and willing to share that with us we would be able to have them on the tour.

Asked on February 7th, 2025Are 17 and 19 year old girls allowed to participate in the Stray Travel tour?
- Stray TravelOperator•Written February 2025
Yes, we can take both girls. For anyone under 18, we need a signed letter from their parent/guardian giving permission to travel. Some accommodations may request to see this letter. We have taken many 17 year olds before with no issues. We cannot guarantee no alcohol exposure, but we do not promote party tours. We expect travelers to adhere to NZ laws regarding alcohol consumption.

Asked on December 8th, 2024I see that upper age is 70 and wonder about an exception to this as my husband is a very healthy active 74 yo
- Stray TravelOperator•Written December 2024
We would definitely be happy to have you both travel with us! In terms of our Adventure Tours, please do note that these are based on dorm share style accommodation. If you would be more interested in private accommodation, we do have our Select Tours which are based on twin share/ double room style

Traveler•Written December 2024You mentioned the dorm share style accommodations: can you tell me a bit more about that? mixed rooms? twin bunk beds? bathrooms down the hall? and if I wanted more private accommodations what do you have to offer?
- Stray TravelOperator•Written December 2024
Dorm Style accommodation would be in mixed rooms of male/ female, single bunk beds majority of the time (some locations may have just single beds in the rooms, but mostly its bunk beds), and yes bathrooms would be shared and down the halls. If you wanted more private based accommodation, our Select Tours would be the way to go. As we offer these tours based on twin share accommodation which is a private room, majority of locations have ensuites (there are just 2 that don't have an ensuite) so it would be just the 2 of you in your own room. These are more 3 star motel/hotel accommodation styles on the Select Tours.

Asked on November 23rd, 2024Is there option for a buffet lunch while at Hobbiton?
- Stray TravelOperator•Written November 2024
I'm afraid that the included Hobbiton Tour does not allow for time to also do the buffet lunch while on the Adventure Tour.
