Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Kathmandu to Lukla to Phakding

    Your guide picks you up early from the hotel for the drive to Kathmandu's domestic airport. The 35-minute flight to Lukla shows off the Himalayan peaks as you climb higher. Once you land, the trek starts at Lukla with a ceremonial walk through the Kani gatehouse, then you head down through forest and pass by Kyangma Village's large monastery. You'll cross several suspension bridges over the Dudh Koshi River, move through Cheplung Village, and walk past ridges lined with Mani walls and prayer wheels before settling in at Phakding for the night.

  2. Day 2

    Phakding to Namche Bazaar

    This is a serious trekking day heading toward Namche Bazaar. The trail has multiple suspension bridges crossing the Dudh Kosi River, then passes through Tok-Tok, Benkar, and Monjo villages. You'll reach the entrance to Sagarmatha National Park and continue walking beside the river for hours before tackling a steep climb that brings you to Namche Bazaar. This place has restaurants, shops, and ATMs, so it's a real hub after days in smaller villages.

  3. Day 3

    Namche Bazaar

    Today is about acclimatization in Namche Bazaar. Doctors say staying active works better than just resting, so you'll have options. You could trek up to Everest View Resort, check out the village of Thame, or explore Khunde. The market here is lively, particularly Friday evenings and Saturdays. Your guide can also take you to the Tourist Visitor Center near Sagarmatha National Park headquarters, where relics from early Everest climbers are on display and you'll learn about Sherpa culture and the local area.

  4. Day 4

    Namche Bazaar to Tengboche

    The trek to Tengboche offers great views as the trail zigzags along valley sides toward Kenjoma's teashops. You'll walk through Khumjung and see Mani stone collections before reaching Sanasa. From there the trail drops to Phunkithanga at 3250m, then climbs steeply through pine forests with more Mani stones until you reach Tengboche at 3870m. The views from here are special with Everest, Ama Dablam, Nuptse, Lhotse, and other major peaks clearly visible.

    Tengboche to Dingboche

    This is an easier trekking day lasting about 3 to 4 hours. The path winds through forest before crossing the Imja Khola river and passing through Pangboche. After that you'll continue through summer grazing lands before arriving at Dingboche for the night. The shorter distance gives your body more time to handle the altitude gain.

    Dingboche

    For better acclimatization, you'll trek up to Chhukung and then back down the valley to Dingboche in a short excursion. From Chhukung you get excellent views of Ama Dablam and the upper valley toward Island Peak's moraines. This short up and down walk gives you altitude exposure while letting you return to Dingboche for the night.

  7. Day 7

    Dingboche to Lobuche

    Today's trek takes 5 to 6 hours as you head to higher altitudes. You'll reach a tea house at 4600m for a break, then trek another 1.5 hours to Lobuche. The trail gradually brings you closer to Mt. Pumori and Mt. Nuptse. You'll pass through Thugla and by the Trekker's Aid Post at Pheriche at 4240m, where a western volunteer mountain specialist and The Himalayan Rescue Association staff are available during trekking season. The route continues up the valley before dropping to the yak pastures at Lobuche for the night.

    Lobuche to Gorakshep to EBC and back to Gorakshep

    Today is full and exciting with two main parts. Start with a 2-hour trek to Gorakshep, one of the world's most remote and highest settlements, where you see Everest and Nuptse. The trail starts easy but gets harder as it crosses moraine terrain. After lunch, you'll trek toward Everest Base Camp at 5360m along the Khumbu Glacier in about 1.5 hours. You'll see the glacier with its dangerous crevices, then return to Gorakshep for the night.

    Your day starts very early with a 1.5-hour climb to Kalapathar to catch the sunrise over Mount Everest and surrounding mountains from this well-known viewpoint. After seeing the mountain views, you'll return to Gorakshep for breakfast. Then you'll trek about 2 hours to Lobuche before continuing for another 2 hours to Dzongla for the night.

    Today you'll cross the challenging Cho La Pass. After early breakfast, you'll head out on the trail, starting with icy terrain as you approach the pass. The pass can sometimes be blocked by thick snow, which makes this section difficult. Coming through the pass, you'll descend to Tagnag for the night.

    Today is a relatively short trek of about 2 to 3 hours before you reach Gokyo. The rest of the day is free to explore the Gokyo Valley. You can visit the ice sheets and turquoise lakes scattered throughout the area. From here you'll see impressive views of Mt. Everest, Cho-Oyu, Lhotse, and Makalu. Return to Gokyo for the night.

    Today the trail goes upward to Gokyo RI, which is a tiring climb. Once you reach the top though, you're rewarded with great views looking down over Gokyo Valley, the impressive Ngozumpa Glacier, and the Himalayan Khumbu ranges around you. After taking in the views, you'll head down to Dole for the night.

    We had a wonderful time going up to Kala Pattar crossing over Cho La to Gokyo. Climbing up Gokyo Ri with stunning views and returning through beautiful Gokyo Valley.     How heavy are most hikers' bags for the 15 day hike for EBC and Gokyo Lakes? How much cost to hire a porter? Or share a porter between 2 hikers? What is suggested tipping for guide, porter and driver?

    • Hepatitis A - Recommended for Nepal. Ideally 2 weeks before travel.
    • Cholera - Recommended for Nepal. Ideally 2 weeks before travel.
    • Tuberculosis - Recommended for Nepal. Ideally 3 months before travel.
    • Hepatitis B - Recommended for Nepal. Ideally 2 months before travel.
    • Meningococcal meningitis - Recommended for Nepal. Ideally 1 week before travel.
    • Yellow fever - Certificate of vaccination required if arriving from an area with a risk of yellow fever transmission for Nepal. Ideally 10 days before travel.
    • Japanese B encephalitis - Recommended for Nepal. Ideally 1 month before travel.
  • Visa
    • Unfortunately we cannot offer you a visa application service. Whether you need a visa or not depends on your nationality and where you wish to travel. Assuming your home country does not have a visa agreement with the country you're planning to visit, you will need to apply for a visa in advance of your scheduled departure.
    • Here is an indication for which countries you might need a visa. Please contact the local embassy for help applying for visas to these places.
  • Payment information
    • For any tour departing before December 7th, 2025 a full payment is necessary. For tours departing after December 7th, 2025, a minimum payment of 50% is required to confirm your booking with Sherpa Expedition Teams. The final payment will be automatically charged to your credit card on the designated due date. The final payment of the remaining balance is required at least 35 days prior to the departure date of your tour. TourRadar never charges you a booking fee and will charge you in the stated currency.
    • Some departure dates and prices may vary and Sherpa Expedition Teams will contact you with any discrepancies before your booking is confirmed.
    • The following cards are accepted for "Sherpa Expedition Teams" tours: Visa, Maestro, Mastercard, American Express or PayPal. TourRadar does NOT charge you an extra fee for using any of these payment methods.
