Itinerary
- Day 1
Arrival in Cairo
Your representative meets you at the airport terminal exit with a sign and takes you in a private air-conditioned vehicle to your hotel. Check-in happens at 14:00 or 15:00 depending on the property. If you arrive early, you can relax at the hotel or arrange a pre-tour extra night for immediate access. Your guide will call to confirm tomorrow's meeting time.

Cairo to Aswan
After breakfast at your hotel, meet your guide for a full day on the Giza Plateau. You'll see the Great Pyramid of Khufu, Khafre's pyramid, Menkaure's pyramid, and their adjacent smaller ones. The Great Sphinx and Valley Temple follow, then grab a photo with the three pyramids and Cairo skyline as your backdrop. Lunch comes at a local restaurant before heading to the Egyptian Museum to walk through its collection spanning 5000 years of ancient artifacts, including King Tutankhamun's golden treasures. Later, transfer to the train station and board your overnight sleeper train to Aswan with dinner served on board.

- Day 3
Aswan
Breakfast happens on the train before you arrive in Aswan. Your guide meets you and helps with transfer to your Nile cruise boat, boarding before lunch. Next, visit the High Dam, built between 1960 and 1970 to control the Nile's flooding and produce hydroelectricity. See the Unfinished Obelisk, believed to belong to Queen Hatshepsut and the largest known ancient obelisk. A felucca sailboat takes you to Agilkia island for the Philae Temple, originally from Philae island itself. The Temple of Isis and its monuments date from the 26th dynasty through the Roman period. Return to your hotel by evening.

Luxor
Breakfast at your hotel comes first, then transfer to Aswan train station for Luxor. On arrival, your guide starts your East Bank exploration with Karnak Temple, the largest place of worship ever built across 100 hectares with three main temples and smaller ones. Cross the West Bank to see Queen Hatshepsut's Mortuary Temple at El Deir El Bahary, built on three terrace levels for god Amun and the queen's funeral rites. The Valley of the Kings contains about 60 tombs from roughly 1539 to 1075 BC, including King Tutankhamun's tomb discovered by Howard Carter in 1922. You'll visit 3 tombs total. Lunch comes during your tour. See the colossal statues of Amenhotep III before transferring to the station for your overnight sleeper train back to Cairo with dinner on board.

- Day 5
Cairo
Breakfast on the train finishes before your private guide escorts you through Coptic Cairo. You'll visit the historic Babylon Fortress, the Hanging Church, Church of St. Barbara, Church of St. Sergius, and Ben Ezra Synagogue. The Amr Ibn El-Aas Mosque, Egypt's first mosque, comes next. See the Church of Simon the Tanner, a 10th-century Coptic Orthodox site linked to the legend of moving the Mokattam Mountain. A quality lunch follows, then head to the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization near Old Cairo displaying artifacts from Pharaonic, Roman, Coptic, Islamic, and modern periods including pottery, wood, textiles, royal mummies with golden sarcophagi. Transfer to your hotel for the night.

Cairo to Alexandria
After breakfast at your Cairo hotel, your representative picks you up for the drive to Alexandria, about 210 kilometers away. Known as the Pearl of the Mediterranean and Egypt's second largest city, Alexandria offers Montazah Palace and Gardens with the Salamlek palace, Haramlek palace, and 317 acres of gardens featuring huge trees and flowers plus two 5-star hotels. Pompay's Pillar, built at the end of the 4th century to honor Emperor Diocletian, comes next, originally from the Temple of Serapis. The Catacombs, Egypt's largest Roman cemetery with three levels cut into rock, follow. Lunch happens at a local Alexandria restaurant.

Departure from Cairo
Breakfast at your hotel precedes your transfer to the airport for your flight home. Your Ancient Egypt Tours representative picks you up and escorts you to the airport. For international flights, plan on pickup 4 hours before departure; domestic flights need 3 hours. If your flight leaves early before breakfast service, arrange a breakfast box with the hotel to take along.
