Itinerary
- Day 1
Kathmandu
You'll arrive in Kathmandu and connect with your guide at the airport for the hotel transfer. After settling in, spend the afternoon walking through local shopping areas and grabbing any last-minute gear you need. Your guide will go over the trek details during the evening briefing.

Kathmandu
A guided tour takes you through Kathmandu's main historical sites. You'll see Pashupatinath Temple, one of Hinduism's holiest temples, then head to Boudhanath Stupa, a significant Buddhist shrine. From there, walk to Swoyambhunath Temple (known locally as the monkey temple) and finish at Durbar Square with its distinctive architecture.

Kathmandu to Lukla to Phakding
Head out early to Kathmandu's domestic terminal for your flight to Lukla. The 35-minute flight offers good views of the Himalayan peaks. After landing at Tenzing-Hilary airport, you'll meet your porter and start trekking through local communities, past monasteries and suspension bridges on your way to Phakding for your first mountain lodge stay.

Phakding to Namche Bazaar
You'll grab breakfast before crossing several suspension bridges over the Dudh Kosi River. Trek through Tok-Tok, Bhenkar, and Monjo, then stop at Sagarmatha National Park to get your permit. After following the river bed and crossing another suspension bridge, tackle a steep uphill section to reach Namche Bazaar, a busy mountain town with shops, restaurants, and ATMs.

Namche Bazaar
Today's focused on acclimatization at a good elevation. Take a short hike to Everest View Resort or explore nearby Thame or Khunde, or simply rest in town. Your guide will bring you to the Tourist Visitor Center near the park headquarters to see mountaineering items, learn about Sherpa traditions, and check out local wildlife and plants.

Namche Bazaar to Tengboche
Trek alongside the Dudh Kosi's glacial water with views of Mt. Everest, Lhoste, Taboche, and Amadablam. You'll reach Tengboche monastery at 3,800 meters/12,500 feet, where you can see ornate wall decorations, a 20-foot Buddha figure, and traditional Lama instruments and clothing. Depending on timing, catch a prayer ceremony in the evening or early morning.

Tengboche to Dingboche
Trek a short distance from Tengboche, probably finishing by afternoon. Pass through Somare at 4,020 meters/13,190 feet and Orsho, then at the trail split, take the left path toward Pheriche. Cross a suspension bridge and make a steep climb to Dingboche at 4,460 meters/14,630 feet. The final section's tough at this altitude, but Dingboche has good lodging options.

Dingboche
Another acclimatization day before pushing higher. Choose between hiking Chukkung Valley and Island Peak, a tough 2 to 3 hour trek to Nagkartshang Gompa, or heading to Pheriche for an afternoon altitude sickness class. Chukkung Valley sits at 4,730 meters/15,500 feet with excellent mountain views. If you're acclimating well, hike Chukkung Ri at 5,550 meters/18,200 feet for Makalu views.

Dingboche to Lobuche
After breakfast, take an easy walk toward Thukla before crossing the steep terminal moraine of the Khumbu Glacier. You'll pass through boulder sections and climb Chupki Lhara, where prayer flags mark a memorial to Scott Fischer and Babu Chiri Sherpa. Continue along the glacier moraine with views of Khumbutse, Lingtren, and Mahalangur Himal before reaching Lobuche.

Lobuche to Everest Base Camp to Gorak Shep
Start your trek to Mt. Everest Base Camp through the rocky Gorak Shep region. Pass Indian army mountaineers' memorials and follow your guide closely since the route can be hard to follow at this height. Trek across rocky terrain, moraine, and streams to Mt. Everest Base Camp. You'll see some of the world's highest peaks including Khumbuste, Nuptse, and Pumori against a gray backdrop before heading back to Gorak Shep.

Gorak Shep to Kala Pathar to Kathmandu
Get up early to watch the sunrise from Kala Pathar, a spot that's perfect for photography with Mt. Everest and other huge peaks looking very close. After taking photos, head back down to Gorakshep for breakfast. Then get ready for your scenic helicopter back to Kathmandu, with great views of the Himalayan range the whole flight. You'll stay at a 3-star hotel tonight.

Kathmandu
Your Everest Base Camp trek ends today. A company representative will pick you up about 3 hours before your flight and take you to the airport. On the way home, you'll have time to think back on what you've accomplished and maybe start dreaming about your next mountain adventure.
