Colombo to Yala
Starting out from Colombo, head south along the coast with several stops planned before reaching Yala. First, the Kosgoda Sea Turtle Conservation Project gives insight into local turtle protection work and what they do to help these creatures. From there, take a boat through the Madu River wetlands, which offers scenic views and a chance to see the area's natural landscape. Later, arrive in Galle to walk through the Old Town and check out the historic fortifications, including Galle Fort, the lighthouse, and the Dutch Reformed Church. The restored Dutch Hospital Shopping Precinct is worth a look for shops and local goods. Before wrapping up, stop by Koggala to watch the stilt fishermen in action, then head to your accommodation for the night.

Yala National Park to Colombo
Wake early for a wildlife safari in Yala National Park, one of Sri Lanka's major protected areas. The park's forests, grasslands, and lagoons are home to leopards, elephants, crocodiles, and hundreds of bird species, so bring binoculars and patience for spotting wildlife. During your time here, you can also visit Buddhist heritage sites like Sithulpawwa monastery and see ancient rock paintings, plus check out the Magul Maha Viharaya ruins if time allows. After the safari winds down, begin the drive back to Colombo for the evening.
