Itinerary
- Day 1
Salzburg
You'll arrive in Salzburg and have the day to explore on your own terms. Wander through the narrow streets and discover hidden squares throughout the old town. Stop by one of the local cafes to try traditional Austrian pastries and coffee while you soak up the atmosphere around Mozart's birthplace and the festival scene.


- Day 2
Salzburg to Golling
You'll start cycling through the Salzach wetlands with the river alongside you the whole way. The route takes you to Hallein, a historic town where you can check out the Celtic Museum if you have time. From there you'll pass the Gollinger waterfall before reaching Golling, where there's a nice market square and a 13th century castle to see.

Golling to St. Johann
Today's ride heads up to Pass Lueg where you get views of the Tennengebirge mountains. You'll pass through the dramatic Salzachofen gorge that the river carved out over time. After that the route continues past Werfen with its impressive castle, and then you reach St. Johann, which you'll recognize by its distinctive cathedral steeples.

St. Johann to Mölltal
You'll cycle through the Gasteiner valley passing through Dorfgastein and Bad Hofgastein on your way to Bad Gastein. This area is known as a spa and ski resort, and there's the famous Gasteiner waterfall to see. Near the end of the day you'll take a 10-minute train through the Tauernschleuse to Mallnitz, then cycle downhill to your hotel in the Molltal valley.

Mölltal to Spittal an der Drau
You're cycling along the river through alpine scenery as you move from the Molltal into the Drautal valley, which is sunnier and marks the South of Austria. The final kilometers are relaxed pedaling as you head to Spittal an der Drau, a medieval town that was important for pilgrims and trade.

- Day 6
Spittal an der Drau to Villach
This is a lighter day with gentle descents along the Drau river and minimal climbing. You'll roll through Paternion, a market town with some nice churches and historic palaces worth seeing. Later you reach Villach, which has an old town with southern character, good restaurants, and lively bars where you can relax after riding.

- Day 7
Villach to Friuli
You'll take a train to skip the steep climb to Tarvis, then spend the day cycling downhill through the Val Canale valley in Italy. The Friulian alpine region here has forests and natural landscapes that feel pretty untouched. The day ends in one of the small villages at the base of the Julian Alps.

Friuli to Udine
After leaving the Val Canale valley you'll visit Gemona del Friuli to see the cathedral Santa Maria Assunta. From there you pedal toward Udine, and as you get closer you'll notice vineyards appearing along the route. Once in Udine you can grab coffee at Piazza or walk through the alleyways and check out the late Gothic and Renaissance buildings.

- Day 9
Udine to Grado
You'll feel the warm breeze as you cycle through flat reed areas and along water canals heading toward the Gulf of Venice. There's a stop planned in Aquileia, sometimes called the second Rome, before you reach Grado. This beach resort town has a long sandy beach, a working harbor, and narrow streets full of Italian restaurants and local character.
