Itinerary

Day 1
Nairobi to Lake Nakuru
A vehicle picks you up from your Nairobi hotel at 8:00 AM and heads toward Lake Nakuru Bird and Rhino Sanctuary. You'll arrive in time for lunch at Lake Nakuru Sopa Lodge, which sits right above the distinctive flamingo-pink rimmed lake. The afternoon is yours to explore the sanctuary on foot or by vehicle, where you might come across white and black rhinos, flamingos, buffaloes, lions, waterbucks, and leopards. Dinner and your first night happen at the lodge.

Lake Nakuru to Maasai Mara
After breakfast at the lodge, the drive takes you through the scenic Great Rift Valley toward Maasai Mara Game Reserve. You'll arrive in time for lunch at Mara Sopa Lodge, positioned right in the heart of the national park. In the afternoon, a game drive puts you out searching for the Big Five and other wildlife, plus you'll see various bird species and the savannah landscape. You'll stay and have dinner at Mara Sopa Lodge.

Evening brings you back to Mara Sopa Lodge for dinner and another night's rest.

Firstly, it is worth noting that the only reason I’m selecting ‘Good’ and not ‘Bad’ is entirely down to our guide on the last day, KiKitu. He was quite simply amazing and salvaged the entire trip. He was professional, informative, punctual and very knowledgeable in finding the animals. Our car was the first ones spotting most of the interesting things. I will also say the accommodations that we stayed in were lovely and the staff was amazing in both instances. Now the bad part…. Our guide for the first few days was less than adequate to say the least. Not only was there none of the usual interest in trying to find us animals or tells us about them, which good guides do. He showed little interest in being there. Now that is all forgivable but for, on what was meant to be our first late afternoon drive for a few hours, we waited so long from the beginning time we were not allowed into the park as it was going to get dark soon. The next day, I was told a safari start time of 6.30am - standard for early morning safaris when the animals are out - he turned up at 8.45am about 2 hrs after the latest safari had left out camp. The next day I was told we could do the early morning and was treated as if this was some mass exemption even though it was just a fraction of the time lost. What was supposed to be a 2hr morning safari was 1.5hrs and then breakfast.I then understood that it would be a half day-ish, or another hr or two safari before heading to the second leg of the trip. Nope! Again I was told 8am and was pick up at 9am. Basically as a result of the delays and timing mismanagement, I missed about a third of the safari time which should have been in Masai Mara. Now the second frustrating mismanagement, was the complete lack of contact from the tour provider. I had to tell them the night before where to pick me up, I was asked nothing about drop-off, and after the first day of having the driver 3.5 hrs late no follow up. Not to mention the itinerary was not how it was stated when I booked. I don’t expect much from a tour provided but it would have been nice to at least know what the high level schedule was, not have to chase to remind and tell them where to take me or leaving me to get in an argument with the bad guide because his timetable was significantly different than what I booked or was told. All in all, my next safari in Kenya will likely only involve KiKitu who again saved the entire trip.

For tours departing after January 17th, 2026, a minimum payment of 50% is required to confirm your booking with Gracepatt Ecotours Kenya. The final payment will be automatically charged to your credit card on the designated due date. The final payment of the remaining balance is required at least 65 days prior to the departure date of your tour. TourRadar never charges you a booking fee and will charge you in the stated currency.
