  1. Day 1

    Arica

    You'll arrive in Arica and head to your hotel to settle in. After dropping your bags, spend the afternoon walking through the city's architectural landmarks like the Cathedral San Marcos and the old customs building, both designed by Eiffel. From there, check out the Costanera promenade and what used to be called Isla del Alacran, then browse the handicraft village before heading back to your hotel for the evening.

  2. Day 2

    Arica to Putre

    Early on you'll travel toward Bolivia along the international road that cuts through the Lluta Valley. Stop at the archaeological site Pukara de Copaquilla and wander through Poconchile to see its 17th century church. After that, you'll pass through desert terrain with candelabra cacti and terraced villages scattered along the route, arriving in Putre by afternoon.

    Lauca National Park

    This morning starts with a hike through the caves sector in Lauca National Park at 4,300m elevation, so be ready for the altitude. Later you'll head to viewpoints at Chucuyo and Cotacotani Lagoon where you can spot vicunas, parinas, and ducks. The afternoon brings you to Lake Chungara at over 4,500 meters and views of the Payachata twin volcanoes. You'll finish by visiting the colonial village of Parinacota before driving back to Arica.
