- Lana· September 1st, 2025This was one of the best organized tours I have ever done. Gareth was a fantastic guide and really helped make the tour very fulfilling and memorable. I can tell that he is very passionate about what he does and really cared about making the experience superb for all on the tour. We did and saw so much in just 6 days, and everything included in that tour was worth doing, which is not always the case for organized tours. The food we ate during the tour was all delicious, and the self-driving safari experience in the Addo Elephant National Park was awesome. Gareth's many years of guiding experience of this tour were evident in the quality of the self-guided safari, for which he was the driver. Gareth, thank you for making this tour such a wonderful adventure that I will always cherish.Show moreTrip date: August 2025

- PMPriya Siqueira· August 15th, 2025Absolutely fantastic. Gareth was simply the best in how he managed the tour seamlessly in spite of so much driving as well as action packed in. We lucked out with the group we traveled with - they were simply great. All in all a fabulous scenic adventure.Show moreTrip date: August 2025
- PMPaula· March 18th, 2025Automatic translation available in English. View in EnglishOverall, we were very happy with the trip and are glad that we booked it. The guided tour gave us the opportunity to see a lot in just a few days and we always felt safe. We experienced lots of great things and got to know nice people. We had booked Double Room Backpacker and were very happy with it, always very nice rooms. Even when one of us was unwell, Mark (tour guide) supported us well. However, it has to be said that the many activities also put time pressure on us. The evening before, the tour guide drew up a schedule for the next day. We were often no longer on schedule after the first activity and then had to rush a bit or had less time at the other stops. On the other hand, this is understandable as we had to arrive at the accommodation on time in the evening. We also underestimated how much you actually sit in the car. On some days, it felt like we were just sitting in the car. However, this is also understandable as you have to cover a lot of distance on the Garden Route. We would also have liked better communication from the tour guide. Basically, there were always clear instructions, but we would have liked more information. Many people asked questions and Mark had difficulty answering everything at the same time, which led to confusion on several occasions and ultimately we weren't sure what the plan was. In general, we thought that the tour was a bit more active, as this was also stated in the description. However, our tour group also included pensioners who had little interest in hiking, for example, which we thought was a shame. On one day, for example, we went on a hike in pairs, as we had informed ourselves independently.Show moreEarthstompers Adventures commented on this reviewHello Paula, Thank you very much for taking the time to review your Garden Route & Addo experience and giving us feedback. I just want to say that it was amazing. We were astonished by how good all the food was. It was a steal! The sights and activities were excellent, including the company of the travel mates. Lastly, our guide Gareth, I really liked his attitude and how straightforward he was, a good sense of humor too. Asked on August 11th, 2025What types of accommodation are included when taking the double room option? What are the approximate costs for dinner and breakfast at Addo park?
- Earthstompers AdventuresOperator•Written August 2025
The accommodation is a backpacker twin/double ensuite (private room for 2 people with its own bathroom). For breakfast budget around R150 per person and for dinner between R250-R300 per person depending on the meals you order.

Asked on July 29th, 2025I see on day 1 there is a shark diving excursion. How do I sign up for that and do you have more information about it? I definitely want to do that.
- Earthstompers AdventuresOperator•Written July 2025
Once you have booked your tour you we will send you a booking form with all the optional activities we offer on tour and on this booking form you can choose which activities you are interested in. The Earthstompers office will make a booking for the dive on your behalf and Marine Dynamics will contact you directly and send you a online payment link. Shark cage diving: Price is R3955 per person. Shark cage diving clients will miss out on a half day of the standard tour, which includes a visit to the Penguin Colony. Clients take a one way transfer with the shark company from/to Cape Town and will be collected from the shark offices by their Garden Route guide (could be an early pickup 3-6am from Cape Town). It sounds scary, but it's actually a very safe activity - the company provides masks & wetsuits (no scuba), and the cage is attached to the boat, so you are not out in open water. Please note that due to unknown factors, Great White shark sightings have decreased over the past 2 years in Gansbaai. Copper Shark sightings have been great however, sighted on nearly every trip. For the shark cage diving we use a company called Marine Dynamics, please see their daily blog for up to date sightings.

Traveler•Written August 2025I was looking to book for the end of May 2026. Is this a good time of year for decent weather, wildlife viewing, etc?
- Earthstompers AdventuresOperator•Written August 2025
May is our transition period between Autumn and Winter, the days are perfect but there may be chances of a scattered shower here or there. The Garden Route however seems to be in a perfect weather pocket so despite chilly evening the days are mostly beautiful and warm.

Asked on May 19th, 2025I'm a single female traveler. I've always had a longing to visit South Africa since I was a child. I plan to go there in October 2026 to fulfill my dream. However, my English is not very good and I'm also concerned about the safety of a single woman traveling there. Could I join your tour under these circumstances?
- Earthstompers AdventuresOperator•Written May 2025
Our group tours are conducted in English, however we have had many guests join this tour even though English was not their first language. Our guides have so much experience and will try to communicate with you to the best of their ability. Our groups range between 4-12 people, with most guests hailing from Europe, America, Canada, and Australia. The group tour is perfect for the solo traveller, small groups of friends, or couples, as you will have the opportunity to travel with a diverse group of people from all over the world and we would love to have you along.

We have guaranteed departures every Monday! (availability permitting) Let me know which departure you are leaning toward and I will be happy to provision a seat for you in the meantime.

Asked on January 15th, 2025Is it possible to bring a regular suitcase when staying in backpacker accommodations? Are there luggage restrictions during the trip?
- Earthstompers AdventuresOperator•Written January 2025
Whether you book guesthouse or backpacker accommodation, our luggage trailers are specifically designed for each passenger to have one suitcase and one 'carry-on'-sized piece of luggage. Suitcase size is limited to the dimension of 67 cm (26 in) by 45 cm (18 in), and carry on is limited to the dimension of 48 cm (19 in) by 32 cm (13 in). There are generally not porters or staff available to assist with luggage – your luggage should be of a size and weight you can comfortably manage yourself. Hard or soft suitcases are fine.

Asked on January 13th, 2025I was wondering how the safety was ensured if it's backpackers or guesthouses stays ?

We make use of small owner run accommodation that we have selected over the years for their cleanliness, unique setting, and atmosphere.

Asked on January 10th, 2025Would you have an option or alternative without the canoeing?
- Earthstompers AdventuresOperator•Written January 2025
The paddle up the Touw River is beautiful and a highlight for guests. Our guides have experience and you will be in safe hands. If you wish to not participate in this activity, you can chat to your guide on tour and you can hike all the way to the waterfall.

Asked on December 17th, 2024Can you cater for a low gluten diet? I am gluten intolerant, not coeliac. There can be a little gluten in the meal and the occasional regular biscuit/cake, but i cannot eat cereal, bread, pizza, pasta, couscous, etc for my main meals (I also cannot eat oats or tapioca flour, which are in some gluten-free replacements). It would be useful if you could let me know!
- Earthstompers AdventuresOperator•Written December 2024
We are able to cater for vegetarian and vegan diets but not strict vegan, gluten-free, lactose free or halal diets. Breakfasts always have a fruit/yogurt option. Most places are happy to offer Gluten Free bread with breakfast. We mostly make use of our small owner run accommodation service providers for providing our groups with local meals. Gluten are being used in all kitchens on a daily basis and there can always be a small risk of cross contamination even when attempting to provide a gluten free option.

Traveler•Written December 2024Is the 6th to 11th Jan trip definitely running? And can you tell me the demographics of those currently booked on the trip (eg, age, sex, and whether they are booked as a group/couple or solo)? I would book the single room option. Are there any discounts available for late booking for example?
- Earthstompers AdventuresOperator•Written December 2024
Our tour is guaranteed to depart on 6 January. So far we have 7 confirmed guests, they are British, Australian, German and New Zealand with 3 solo travellers. Ages are 20's, 30's & 50's. I am unable to offer any discount for this tour as we believe all guests should pay the same rate for our tour.
