Itinerary
- Day 1
Kathmandu
You'll land in Nepal and make your way across the border, taking in views of the Himalaya and the terraced fields below. An Oriental Journeys representative meets you at arrival and gets you settled into your hotel. Later this evening, head to Thamel, Kathmandu's main tourist area, where restaurants serve everything from Western food to traditional Nepali dishes. While you're there, walk around and check out some of the Hindu and Buddhist sites scattered throughout the neighborhood.

- Day 2
Kathmandu
This day focuses on Kathmandu's cultural side rather than trekking. You'll visit heritage sites that show off Hindu and Buddhist traditions, along with intricate woodcarving, paintings, and sculptures that reflect the city's unique architecture. Throughout the day, you'll see how these traditions are still part of daily life in different neighborhoods. By evening, try some local Nepali food at a restaurant in the city.

Landmarks Kathmandu Valley - Day 3
Kathmandu to Chitwan
Leave your hotel early and fly to Bharatpur (about 15 to 20 minutes). After landing, drive to your hotel in Chitwan for another 15 to 20 minutes. The trip takes you from mountain terrain down to the Terai plains, so you'll notice the landscape shifts pretty dramatically. Along the way, you'll see how the culture changes too, with both Nepali and North Indian influences showing up as you move into lower elevations.

- Day 4
Chitwan
Spend the full day doing safari activities in Chitwan National Park. You'll have chances to spot one-horned rhinoceros, spotted deer, hog deer, sambar deer, barking deer, and gharial crocodiles. If luck is on your side, you might see leopards, sloth bears, or Royal Bengal Tigers. Bird watching happens throughout the day since the park has so many different species around.

- Day 5
Chitwan
Travel by longboat from the river's edge to Tiger Tops Tharu Lodge. From the low-to-water boats, you'll have good chances to spot gharial crocodiles, tigers, rhinoceros, and birds. Once at the lodge, spend time relaxing under a mango tree, swimming in the pool, playing tennis, or relaxing in a hammock. If you're interested, take an optional bullock cart ride through a nearby Tharu village in the evening and listen to the forest sounds after dark.

- Day 6
Chitwan
Wake early for a full day spent with elephants. Head out to the grasslands by the river where mahouts cut grass for them to eat. Watch the elephants grazing through the morning mist with a cup of Nepali tea, and if you want, help out with cutting and binding the grass. After breakfast back at camp, spend the morning learning about elephant care from the mahouts. Post lunch, take a jungle walk with the elephants and mahouts to see how they move around, what they eat, and how they communicate. A naturalist explains the ecosystem and points out tigers, deer, rhinos, and birds along the way.

Chitwan to Kathmandu
Participate in village activities this morning before heading out of Chitwan. Later, fly from Bharatpur back to Kathmandu. Once there, spend the evening shopping for gifts, souvenirs, handicrafts, and Thanka paintings. An Oriental Journeys representative helps you find what you're looking for.

Landmarks Thamel - Day 8
Kathmandu
Your final morning in Kathmandu includes breakfast and time for any last-minute souvenir shopping if needed. An Oriental Journeys representative will pick you up at your hotel and drive you to the airport. Make sure you arrive at least two hours before your scheduled flight departs.
