- AJanet S· September 18th, 2019Trip ran smoothly. Guide treated everyone nicely. He helped people with big luggage and made sure all got back to hotel safely. Eric was helpful and caring to us all.Show moreTrip date: January 2019
- ATarnia Y· September 18th, 2019Got to see lots of Japan. Was really pleased to see some of the smaller cities (Takayama, Nikko and Hakone) as these would be places you may not go to if not on a guided tour.Show moreTrip date: January 2019
- AJayme G· September 18th, 2019I loved the trip, it gave a good taste of japan and a lot in it.Show moreTrip date: January 2019
- AEmma P· September 18th, 2019The tour leader was excellent and the itinerary was good so as a solo traveller I loved it! The trip could be done a lot cheaper independently but I don’t think I would have learned as much about the culture without the tour leaderShow moreTrip date: January 2019
- ASuzanne H· September 18th, 2019I LOVED the GUIDEhe was A+ His love and interest and KNOWLEDGE was one of the best I have had.The holidays made it difficult in the end of trip to visit certain restaurants and Pease Museum so that was a bummer.Darn 4 day holiday at News Years, does not happen in US so I had no idea.BUT it was IDEAL timing for me to travel and I heard others say the same thing. But the cost vs the off season seems like it was expensive.I paid a lot and it was off season. Also for me I was with 2 families and a couple that I felt as an individual traveler made it difficult to make friends they had their unit.GREAT thing was there were 3 of us that did not have others with us.Without those two people my trip would have been terrible because I would not have had anyone to hangout with.I think I need to upgrade to the comfort trip I guess I would like to understand the difference better.Show moreTrip date: December 2018
- ASusan M· September 18th, 2019I would recommend Intrepid based on the group size and the ability of the tour to deliver real and local experiences of the countries culture to its clients.Show moreTrip date: December 2018
- AKaren N· September 18th, 2019Alain Sabourin was an excellent tour guide - he has both the personality and local knowledge requiredShow moreTrip date: December 2018
- AC A· September 18th, 2019I find Japan a daunting place to travel - lots of rigid social rules and my inability to communicate in Japanese make it harder than most. Alain Sabourin did an excellent job of leading the trip - coping with the logistics relatively seamlessly, and remaining cheerful and willing to help throughout.Show moreTrip date: December 2018
- ANicola M· September 18th, 2019Great leader. Well organized and designed trip with good amounts of freedom.Show moreTrip date: December 2018

Asked on February 17th, 2025On the "Japan, land of the rising sun" departing october 2 there are couple of nights where the overnight stay is at a small shared facility inn on tatami mats. Is there a way to upgrade it to regular beds with attached private bathroom?
- Intrepid TravelOperator•Written February 2025
Unfortunately, we are unable to upgrade the accommodations on our Japan tours. The itinerary includes stays at traditional Japanese inns (ryokans or minshukus), which involve sleeping on futons or mattresses on tatami mat floors. These inns typically have small attached bathrooms or shared bathing facilities with set hours.

Asked on November 26th, 2024What happens to our luggage as we travel from place to place?
- Intrepid TravelOperator•Written November 2024
We basically leave our luggage at the hotel and go sightseeing at each destination. Otherwise, we should pack light. On some days, we forward big luggage to the next destination in the morning while we take a smaller bag with us.
