Itinerary
- Day 1
Mexico City
You'll arrive in Mexico City and head to your hotel to meet the group at 2 pm. After the welcome meeting, you'll walk through the UNESCO-listed Historic Center on foot, taking in the architecture and layout of this central area. From there, a guided tour takes you through the National Anthropology Museum, where you can see major collections of pre-Hispanic artifacts. Later in the evening, there's an optional dinner with the group at a local restaurant if you want to join everyone.

Mexico City to Tuxpan
After breakfast, you'll head out to Teotihuacan to explore the ancient pyramids and structures of this UNESCO-listed site. The drive from Mexico City takes a couple hours, then you'll spend time walking around the grounds and learning about this Mesoamerican city. Next, you'll travel to Xicotepec, a Magic Town known for its coffee production and its mix of pre-Hispanic and colonial influences. An optional lunch and walking tour are available here. Later you'll continue to Tuxpan, a fishing village on the coast where you're staying near the beach. You'll get an orientation walk through town and have the option to grab dinner at a local restaurant.

Tuxpan to Papantla
This morning starts with a boat trip out to the Tuxpan Coral Reef where you can see the corals and try snorkeling in the water. After returning, you'll head inland to El Tajín, a UNESCO-listed site with well-preserved pyramids and structures from ancient Mesoamerica. On the way there's a stop at a large Christ the Redeemer statue. From there you'll go to Papantla, a Magic Town where the Totonac people maintain their traditions, including vanilla growing and the famous flying dance performance. You'll see traditional clothing and local crafts being made. Once you arrive at your accommodation, you'll get a walking tour of the historic center and have the option for a final dinner in town.

Papantla to Mexico City
After breakfast and checking out, you'll start the drive back to Mexico City, arriving in the early afternoon. The route takes you across the San Marcos Bridge, a 225-meter-high structure that ranks as the 12th highest bridge in the world. The drive offers nice panoramic views of the landscape, and when fog rolls in, you get that unusual feeling of driving through clouds above the terrain below.
