Villeneuve les Avignon
You'll arrive in Villeneuve les Avignon and settle into Hotel Les Cedres, which sits right on the banks of the River Rhone. This is where your cycling adventure begins, so take time to get oriented and rest up after your journey. The hotel serves as your base for the next week as you explore this region by bike.

Villeneuve les Avignon to Arles
Your first cycling day follows the river downstream from Villeneuve les Avignon. You'll pass the troglodyte abbey of St Romain near Beaucaire, and from there you can see both the Tarascon and Beaucaire castles across the water. After crossing the river, the route takes you through farmland and into Arles. Once there, walk through the Roman arena and theatre, check out the traditional market, and find the locations Van Gogh painted during his time in the city.

Arles to Aigues Mortes
This morning starts with more time in Arles at the arena, then you'll cycle through Saint-Gilles to see its UNESCO-listed abbey. From there, the landscape opens into the completely flat Camargue, a regional park where you'll see flamingos and over 400 different bird species. By evening you'll reach Aigues Mortes, a medieval fortress town that Charlemagne developed in the 8th century and King Louis IX later shaped in the 13th century.

Aigues Mortes (circular route)
Today is a circular route exploring the Camargue from Aigues Mortes. You'll head out about 8 miles via canals and cycle paths to Plage de l'Espiguette for a swim. Afterward, cycle into Le Grau du Roi, a charming fishing port and beach town, and grab lunch there. On the way back, you'll visit the famous salt works and ride a little train to learn how salt gets produced, then hike up one of the giant salt dunes.

Aigues Mortes to Nimes
Cycling from the Camargue today takes you through nearly flat terrain in the morning. You'll stop at the source of Perrier water and check out their museum before continuing through farmland on small roads toward Nimes. The route passes through Générac and Caissargues, and later in the day you arrive at your hotel, which sits right next to the spectacular Roman arena.

Nimes to Uzes
Start by visiting the Roman arena in Nimes, considered the best preserved in the world. Then head to the Fontaine de Nimes natural spring and walk through its beautiful park with sculptures and landscaped water gardens. Later, you'll cycle through the Languedoc countryside on tiny roads, gently climbing out of Nimes before descending into the Gardon river valley. Pass through Blauzac and reach the medieval town of Uzes with its memorable center, then cycle to Hotel St Genies about a mile outside town.

Uzes to Pont du Gard to Villeneuve les Avignon
Begin at the source of the 50 km Aqueduct de Nimes and consider stopping at the Haribo museum and factory if that interests you. Cycle to the Pont du Gard, a spectacular Roman aqueduct built in the 1st century AD to bring water to Nimes. You'll have a picnic lunch right under the aqueduct, then follow the river downhill through Remoulins on back roads to reach the Rhone at Aramon. From there, cycle along the Rhone all the way back to Villeneuve les Avignon and Hotel Les Cedres.

Villeneuve les Avignon (Departure)
Your cycling tour ends today. After checking out of Hotel Les Cedres, transport will take you to Avignon TGV train station, which is about 15 minutes away. From there you'll catch your train to Paris, London, Charles de Gaulle airport, or wherever your next destination takes you.
