Itinerary

  1. Day 1

Lemosho Gate to Big Tree Camp

Your pickup happens around 08:00 from the hotel, then transport takes you to Lemosho gate on Kilimanjaro's western side. After registration and paperwork, you'll start trekking through the forested Lemosho glades at a steady pace. The 7km walk to Big Tree camp takes about 4 hours, and you'll settle in for your first night at this lower altitude spot.

    Meals
    Breakfast, Lunch (Lunch box), Dinner

    Included Activities

    • Trek through Lemosho glades forest
    • Reach Big Tree camp
    Landmarks/POIs
    Lemosho Gate
    Big Tree Camp
  2. Day 2

    Shira 1 to Shira 2

This day involves more ground as you trek across moorland with heather and volcanic rocks scattered throughout. You'll pass through Shira 1 Camp where conditions often give you views of Kibo Peak sitting above the clouds. The route gets fairly steep in sections as altitude increases, and you'll see the Northern Ice fields from the western approach. The climbing helps your body adapt while you take in views across the Shira Plateau.

    Meals
    Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

    Included Activities

    • Trek across Shira Plateau moorland
    • Pass through Shira 1 Camp
    • View Kibo Peak and Northern Ice fields
    • Reach Shira 2 Camp

  3. Day 3

    Shira 2 to Barranco Camp

Starting with an ascent that opens up far-reaching views, you'll enter the upland desert zone and walk on lava ridges below the glaciers of the Western Breach. Lava Tower at 4640m becomes your lunch stop and the day's highest point. After eating, you'll make a steep descent down to Barranco Camp at 3960m in the Great Barranco Valley, sheltered by tall cliffs and offering extensive views toward the plains below.

    Included Activities

    • Trek through upland desert zone
    • Walk on lava ridges beneath Western Breach glaciers
    • Reach Lava Tower at 4640m
    • Descend to Barranco Camp

  4. Day 4

    Barranco to Karanga Camp

You'll head down into the Great Barranco ravine, then tackle a steep climb up the Great Barranco Wall that separates you from Kibo's southeastern slopes. This isn't technical climbing but it's long and tiring. From there, you'll move through Karanga valley heading toward Karanga camp at 3963m, passing underneath the Heim and Kersten glaciers. Later, if you're feeling up for it, an optional acclimatization trek goes to around 4200m before returning to camp.

  5. Day 5

    Karanga to Barafu Camp

After resting overnight, breakfast comes before the walk to Barafu camp at 4640m across barren scree slopes with no plants. This section is tough and steep, with altitude making it harder. You'll eat on arrival and spend the afternoon resting to prepare for the summit attempt. Staying hydrated and warm matters a lot here. An early dinner comes before you try to sleep, since you'll wake between 11pm and midnight to begin the final push.

As the sun rises, you'll reach Stella Point at the crater rim (5739m) with ice cliffs visible inside the crater and views toward Mawenzi peak. Another hour gets you to Uhuru Peak at 5895m, Kilimanjaro's summit. Then you'll make your way back down to Stella Point, descend the scree to Barafu camp for breakfast, and continue down to Millennium Camp for rest.

I recently had the privilege of summiting Mount Kilimanjaro via the Lemosho route with Migration Venture Africa, and it was nothing short of incredible. The 7-day, 6-night trek was an adventure I’ll never forget. From the moment we arrived at the starting point, everything was meticulously planned. The team from Migration Venture Africa made sure we were prepared, from briefing us about the trek to providing high-quality gear and ensuring we were physically and mentally ready. The Lemosho route itself was perfect it’s less crowded compared to other routes, and the scenery was just breathtaking. Every day brought something new: lush rainforests, alpine meadows, and, of course, the awe-inspiring vistas of Kibo Peak. What stood out most was the exceptional crew guides, porters, and cooks. They were friendly, knowledgeable, and incredibly supportive. They paced us well, making sure we acclimatized properly and took breaks when needed. On summit night, the atmosphere was electric—there was a sense of camaraderie, and despite the cold and exhaustion, the thought of reaching the roof of Africa kept everyone motivated. The 7-day itinerary allowed enough time to adjust to the altitude, which really made a difference in terms of avoiding altitude sickness. The climb was challenging but achievable, and when we finally reached Uhuru Peak, the view was worth every step. I can’t recommend Migration Venture Africa enough. Their attention to detail, focus on safety, and positive energy made my Kilimanjaro experience unforgettable. If you’re looking to take on the mountain, this company has everything you need to make it an adventure of a lifetime.

I recently had the incredible experience of summiting Mount Kilimanjaro via the Lemosho Route (7 Days, 6 Nights) with Migration Venture Africa, and I couldn't have asked for a better journey. From the very beginning, the professionalism and care shown by the team made a huge difference. The guides were knowledgeable, supportive, and always made sure we were well-prepared for each day’s climb. The chefs were incredible, serving up delicious meals that kept us energized even at high altitudes. The Lemosho Route is absolutely stunning. Over 7 days, we passed through diverse landscapes, from lush rainforests to the stark beauty of alpine deserts, all while gradually gaining altitude, which made acclimatization easier. The trek was challenging, especially the summit day, but the reward of watching the sunrise from Uhuru Peak was absolutely worth it. The entire team at Migration Venture Africa made sure we were safe, comfortable, and well taken care of. The porters worked tirelessly behind the scenes, and their efforts didn’t go unnoticed. If you're thinking about climbing Kilimanjaro, I highly recommend the Lemosho Route, and Migration Venture Africa is definitely the company to choose. It was an experience of a lifetime, and I’ll cherish the memories forever!

I had an unforgettable experience during this trip. The trip was well organised, all of the crew were friendly and helpful at all times, the food was plentiful, and the guide (Kim) was extremely helpful. As I had booked to go in November, the weather conditions on the trip weren’t fantastic (heavy rain, and then heavy wind and snow for the ascent). But the guide Kim used good initiative to amend the itinerary so the ascent to the summit could be completed a day early. Had the summit had been on the original day, the ascent wouldn’t have been possible as the authorities had closed the route due to weather. Additionally, the guide was very accommodating in allowing me to borrow his spare dry clothes, as mine had unfortunately all gotten wet during the rain. The trip wouldn’t have been possible and would have been far less enjoyable had it not been for this service from the guide. My only negative feedback for the trip was that I didn’t feel the equipment provided by the company was up to standard to deal with the weather conditions during wet season. My sleeping bag felt cold, the tent leaked during the rain, and all the clothes in my rented duffel bag were drenched after being transported by the porters in the rain. However when I noted this to the company at the end of the trip - they received the feedback well and assured that they would replace these defective items for the future. The only other point I would note is that I felt 6 days would be an appropriate amount of time for the trip rather than 7 days (days 4 and 5 I think could be combined into one day). Overall - a great experience with Migration Venture Africa and one that I would recommend!

We had a great experience with Migration Venture Africa. Our main guide was Shabani. He and his team made our journey safe and very comfortable. Everyday several times medical check up. Any requiered information on the tour - guides know everything. They even know how to make exhausted people move - using songs! All of our big (12 persons) company ascended the summit together. It was unforgettable. Also big thanks to the cooks. In the morning coffee or tea to the tent, every evening bunny warmers, cake for birthday, delicious food during the day, tea breaks during day-route - this was very caring and always with kind smiles. The only thing we got to do was to move ahead. The rest hard job was done by the team - to bring heavy gear, to pack and place camp, to cook and also to care about tourists - and everything with warm attitude. Great job, Migration Venture Africa.

Amos gave me, my family and my new friends an incredible experience travelling to Tanzania, and climbing Kilimanjaro. Setting up this trip was made incredibly easy thanks to Migration Venture Africa’s wonderful and friendly agents and accommodations before, during, and after the climb were always ensured thanks to that company During the climb, Migration Venture Africa went above and beyond the needs and desires of the group, constantly ensuring that we, the climbers, were safe, healthy, happy, and enjoying every bit of the travel up, down, and around the Kilimanjaro national park.

The 4 of us booked 8 days Kilimanjaro climbing using the longer Lemosho track with Migration Venture Africa. Communication prior to the trek was smooth and Issa was helpful, and patient with us. Our guides proved helpful, and supportive during the climb, they he took time to ensure our health with daily checks for blood pressure, oxygen levels as well as maintaining Corona precautions. We reached the summit exhausted, views there were jaw-dropping, especially the sunrise above the clouds! We have no regrets for using this wonderful company

The porters really make the experience so much better, they try to cater to your every need and work so hard to get you to experience the summit and the beauty of the mountain. We did the 7 Day Lemosho route! Truly an experience of a lifetime. I cannot fault our team at all! They dedicated those 7 days to getting us up and making sure all our needs were catered to! This is also bearing in mind that I had never camped before in my life, so an all around new experience! I did donate some of my gear afterwards to the company, in hope that it would go to a porter that needed it, especially a women. Thanks a lot Migration Venture for that gift
