Itinerary
- Day 1
Trek Start
The trek kicks off with a scenic drive through the Ganesh and Manaslu mountain ranges, with the white waters of the Trisuli River accompanying you along the way. After stopping for lunch, you'll walk through rhododendron and pine forests, cross a suspension bridge, and climb steeply through a boulder-filled river valley. The landscape opens up to reveal the village of Tal surrounded by barley, wheat, and potato fields before you head to Dharapani for the night.

Bagarchap to Chame
You'll trek westward through dramatic fir and pine forests to reach Bagarchap, where traditional Tibetan architecture and firewood stacked on roofs catch your attention. The path offers great views of Lamjung Himal, Annapurna II and III, plus distant Manaslu. After crossing a wooden bridge beside a waterfall and taking a rest at Laatamarang, you'll pass through the police check post at Koto before arriving in Chame with its wireless station and bank.

Brathang to Pisang
Starting through barley and buckwheat fields, you reach apple orchards at Brathang, a former Khampa settlement where lunch happens. The trek continues through thick fir forests with glimpses of Lamjung and Annapurna peaks rising overhead, then opens to reveal the impressive 1500m-high rock slabs of Paungda Danda. The day ends at Pisang village with its flat-roofed stone houses positioned directly in view of Annapurna II and Pisang Peak.

Pisang to Manang
Walking through Pisang village past wooden irrigation canals typical of trans-Himalayan terrain, you observe how locals combine farming with running hotels and teahouses while herding goats and yaks. An easy walk with one steep climb brings you to the Hongde airstrip for lunch. Later, an easy valley walk reaches Braga, where houses stack dramatically on cliff sides with a 500-year-old monastery above, then a short walk brings you to Manang.

Manang Rest Day
Today you rest in Manang, a compact village of about 500 flat-roofed houses surrounded by mountains. The huge Annapurna icefall towers over the village, with Annapurna II, IV, Tilicho, RocNoir, and Chulu peaks creating an impressive panorama around you. You can relax at your lodge or trek above the village to catch great views of the Annapurna peaks, where mountain goats and Blue Sheep occasionally appear on higher slopes.

Manang to Ledar
Leaving early, you slowly ascend to Tengi then branch away from the Marsyangdi valley to follow the Jarsang Khola. Walking past sparse fir and pine that gradually gives way to scrub juniper and grasses, you pass a few small yak herder shelters before stopping at the pleasant meadow of Ledar. The pace stays relaxed to help you adjust to the altitude.

Ledar to Phedi
This short day gets you to Phedi, the base of the Thorung Pass, with plenty of time to rest before the crossing. You'll cross the Jarsang Khola on a covered bridge and follow the left bank over loose scree in the steep-sided valley. Arriving by lunchtime means the afternoon is free to relax and prepare mentally for the pass.

Phedi to Muktinath via Thorung Pass
Starting around 3 am, you begin the Thorung Pass crossing on a trail that's not steep but involves a long gradual approach with several false summits before reaching the 5416m stone cairns marking the pass crest. In clear weather, views span the Annapurna, Mukut, and Mustang ranges with the Kali Gandaki valley stretching far below. The descent is fairly steep with Dhaulagiri and Tukche Peak coming into view, and you reach Muktinath, one of Nepal's most sacred pilgrimage sites, by early afternoon with its monasteries and temples featuring 108 waterspouts shaped like cows' heads.

Muktinath to Jomsom
From Muktinath, the trail descends toward the Kali Gandaki Valley through Jharkot, where Dhaulagiri and Nilgiri tower in the background. The terrain around Jharkot appears barren and moonlike with patches of green cultivation and man-made irrigation canals crossing the fields. A short steep descent brings you to Eklaibhati on the valley floor for lunch, then the afternoon involves following the river heading south through the wide, windswept, barren valley to historic Jomsom.

Jomsom to Pokhara
After an early breakfast, you fly to Pokhara and transfer to your hotel for a welcome shower. The rest of the day is yours to relax and walk around town at your own pace. In the evening, check out one of the lakeside restaurants if you'd like, though dinner is on your own.
