The trip of a lifetime! We fit so many great activities into such a short time. We saw everything there was to see (the big five and more!). The chimp and gorilla trekking was the highlight of the trip. We were able to spend so much time just feet away from these amazing creatures. The country was incredibly beautiful. Our guides Veronica and John gave an unparalleled experience with their professionalism and knowledge. By the end of the trip we considered them family. Mukisa Safaris is the way to go if you are traveling to Uganda!

There are no words for how incredible this tour was. I had high expectations and a lot of excitement for this trip and I was nervous I was setting myself up for disappointment, but no such thing. Richard reached out several times ahead of the trip to help us prep and ensure we had what we needed. When we arrived, the tour accomodated our arrival time to Uganda. We had an incredible experience at every park. Veronica was an amazing guide sharing her love of Uganda and passion in what she does. Sam, our driver, he kept us safe and entertained especially on those long drives. We saw everything we were hoping to and more and were able to experience some of the culture. The accommodations were great and the food was excellent. I cannot recommend this tour and this tour company more. We were told that Mukisa means blessing, and that they were. Thank you for making a memory to never forget.

Mukisa Safari Tour scheduled an amazing trip and Richard our contact was very quick with responses and helpful but our guide Veronica and our driver Sam were what made the trip all what we could hope it could be. Sam got us from place to place safely, had a good sense of humor, and gave us some tidbits along the way. He also introduced me to the chili oil there which was perfect to add to our food. Veronica was so knowledgable, caring, and you can tell loves her country and job. We met another couple at one of the lodges that said all companies are the same but we have to disagree. This company, the people , and the activities made it a trip of a lifetime. Starting off seeing rhinos the first day was just the beginning. Make sure you get to the top of Murchison Falls because that is breathtaking. The weather was hot but up there with the mist helped cool things off. By the end of day two the only thing we didn't see in the big five was the lion which was fine as you do the lion trekking in Queen Elizabeth's National Park. I would recommend everyone spend the extra money for the lion trekking as we went off the road and got to see things no one else got to see such as lion cubs and a leopard that used the car to get some shade. You go on two river boats but honestly the second one was so much better seeing animals. So many babies, and variety. The chimpanzee and gorilla trekking is why we went but the whole trip was truly noteworthy. The drives are long and bumpy but enjoy the people and the time to reflect. When we had a health issue everyone was helpful and responsive. Veronica was very communicative every step of the way and if things got changed or needed taken care of she was there explaining what and why. Out of all the companies out there I think you will be very happy with Mukisa.

I have wanted to see the Silverback Gorillas for as long as I could remember, but somehow my travels always took me elsewhere. When Covid hit the world, I feared that I would never get the opportunity. But as the world started opening up, I decided to look into the trip once again. Through the many twists and turns of internet research, I stumbled on Mukisa Safaris. Reading sample itineraries and pricing, I thought "This sounds too good to be true." Seeing that every review of the company was positively glowing, I wondered "Who is this company?" So I sent an inquiry by e-mail, and that is where my adventure began.
First of all, I quickly became convinced that the Manager, Richard, never sleeps. Given the time difference between Canada and Uganda, I was surprised to get immediate replies regardless of time of day or night. Any question or concern I had was addressed to complete satisfaction. As a solo female traveler, safety is paramount, and Richard put me at ease even before I left. Any change to the proposed itinerary was implemented without issue. Richard even provided visa information and links for the on-line application. During the 10 days on tour, Richard phoned me three times to make sure that everything was in order and that I was enjoying myself. He is a consummate professional who is a master at his job.
Sam was my champion driver. The way he navigated the bumpy Ugandan roads and traffic was a super-human feat. On game drives, he maneuvered the jeep to give me a front row seat to the wealth of animals we saw, enabling me to get photos of a lifetime that are National Geographic quality.
My guide, Veronica, was a walking encyclopedia of Ugandan culture, and flora and fauna facts. It was obvious it was her sole mission to make sure that my every whim was granted, many times going way beyond the call of duty. For example: typically, when I travel I find bed mattresses hard. It was no different on this trip, and in one lodge, I felt like I was sleeping on a slab of concrete. After my first of two nights at this location, Veronica asked me how I slept. I was honest in my reply. But, I said, it's not that big a deal, and I only have one more night here, I'll survive. Well, unbeknownst to me, she spoke to the lodge Manager and arranged for them to place a foam topper on the mattress, making all the difference in the world. I'll be the first to admit that I am a Type-A control freak, especially when it comes to precious vacations. But after just a couple of days, I knew I was in the most capable of hands, and it was my pleasure to hand over the reins to her, and just sit back and relax. Veronica's expertise is as big as her kindness and her heart.
I toured South Africa in 2011, and while that was an amazing, sensational trip, all the animal encounters in Uganda were so over the top in comparison. The sheer number of each type of animal in the National Parks is mind-boggling: 10 White Rhinos at Ziwa Sanctuary; 18 Lions and 4 Leopards (one in a tree !!!!) at Queen Elizabeth National Park; 37 Hippos in a mud pit at the side of a road going from one location to another; Elephants, Giraffes, and Antelopes, oh my! It was almost over-whelming, and if it wasn't for my photos, I might think it was all a wondrous dream.
There was so much packed into the ten days: game drives, river cruises, each activity providing views of different birds and animals. But the first highlight of the trip for this monkey-nut was Chimpanzee trekking in Kibale Forest. What a treat to see them in their natural habitat. At one point the alpha male walked right through our small group, making us part way for him. It felt surreal to be that close to him, and it's a memory I'll carry with me forever.
However, the capper was definitely Gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. The trek was the most strenuous, arduous activity I have ever done in my life, and thank goodness I hired a porter to carry my backpack and camera equipment. He also helped me climb up and down the trails which had turned to slick mud due to torrential rain that fell the night before. It took about 4 hours to locate the Gorillas, but when we did, instead of my heart beating from exertion, it was hammering from incredulity that I was a stone's throw away from a family of seven Gorillas, including two babies. The alpha male was the most incredible specimen of power I have ever seen, and the fulfilment of a life-long dream.
"Mukisa" is Luganda for blessed, or blessing. While Veronica nd Sam were assigned to me as my guide and driver, what they really became were my guardian angels who were instrumental in making the trip the success it was. I was treated like a Queen the whole time.
If I live to be 100 and forget my own name, I'll still remember my trip to Uganda, and I am definitely "Mukisa" to have done it.
I whole-heartedly recommend Mukisa Safaris with absolutely no reservations. Tell them Janice sent you!

I had a great time on the safari. I was on my own and was happy to have a female guide (seems to be one of the few companies that employ women). I liked that I had a separate driver too, so he was able to focus on the roads and not worry about the next reservation or lunch spot. The vehicle was well maintained, and it had a pop top so I could stand when we drove to see the animals. We stayed a variety of lodges -- each one having some unique component -- a stunning view of the plains, a lakeside setting, or my favorite, the Bush Lodge, where you had to be accompanied after dark because of the roaming hippos and elephants. Overall, I felt very well taken care of and thoroughly enjoyed my experience.

It was a breathtaking trip. We enjoyed every moment. We slept in the most beautiful locations. The gorilla walk was very heavy but it was more than worth it (recommended!!!). We have had the time of our lives. The elderly enjoyed it just as much as the people in their twenties. It is a wonderful journey for everyone. This organization is professional and definitely recommended for your trip to Uganda and Rwanda. We enjoyed our vacation very hard and and we would like to thank Mukisa Safaris Uganda for this.
