Itinerary
- Day 1
Nairobi to Masai Mara
You'll leave Nairobi early in the morning, traveling by specialized safari vehicle toward the Masai Mara National Reserve. After several hours on the road, you'll arrive at your twin-share pre-erected tent accommodation positioned right on the reserve's edge. This afternoon, you head out on your first game drive, searching for wildebeest, zebra, antelope, rhino, elephant, and giraffe across the open plains.

Masai Mara
Another full day in the Masai Mara with both morning and afternoon game drives. You'll explore different sections of the park, looking for the Big Five along with hyenas, vultures, warthogs, and the harder-to-spot African wild dogs. Mid-day you'll break for lunch back at camp before heading out again.

Masai Mara to Nairobi
You depart the Masai Mara and travel back through the Great Rift Valley toward Nairobi. The drive takes you through varied terrain and landscape changes. By evening you'll check into your accommodation in the city for the night.

Nairobi to Arusha (Tanzania)
After crossing into Tanzania at the Namanga frontier, you'll drive toward Arusha, known as Tanzania's safari capital. You arrive late afternoon. If time permits, you can walk through local markets or take a walk through a traditional Masai village to see daily life there.

Arusha to Serengeti National Park
You transfer to specialized safari vehicles and head into Serengeti National Park. Before reaching your bush campsite, you'll drive around the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater, taking in the dramatic views. Later, you'll arrive at your unfenced bush camp where you'll fall asleep to the sounds of African wildlife all around.

Arusha to Bagamoyo

Bagamoyo to Dar es Salaam
You drive 2 to 3 hours along the coast to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania's main port city. This vibrant cultural hub has impressive Arab architecture, colorful markets, beaches, and turquoise water. You'll spend the night by the beach.

Dar es Salaam to Zanzibar
Take the ferry to Zanzibar in the morning, leaving your overland truck behind on the mainland. You'll spend your first day wandering through Stone Town's cobbled alleys and checking out the historic sites. Then you head to northern beaches for two days of beach time, with options to visit spice plantations, go snorkeling, try a massage, or take a yacht trip.

Dar es Salaam to Mikumi National Park
You drive southwest inland toward the Malawi border, passing through Mikumi National Park where you can spot wildlife in Tanzania's fifth-largest game reserve. You'll stay at accommodation on the park's edge. Later, you can opt for another game drive or simply relax at the bar and restaurant.

Heading south through Baobab Valley, you'll see ancient swollen baobab trees dotting the landscape. You continue to the town of Iringa and arrive at Kisolanza Farm, a family-run organic business located in Tanzania's scenic Southern Highlands.

Iringa to Mbeya Region
You head toward Malawi but stop at Utengule Coffee Lodge in the Mbeya range. The location offers views of the East African Rift Valley. During your time here, you can relax by the pool, try activities like squash or tennis, or take an optional guided coffee plantation tour that includes a roasting demonstration.

Mbeya Region to Chitimba Beach (Malawi)
After crossing into Malawi at the Songwe border, you arrive at Chitimba Beach on Lake Malawi. Early morning brings traditional Bwato dugout canoes to the water. You'll have plenty of free time to spend on the beach, explore the village, visit the local craft market for woodcarving or handmade goods, learn the traditional game of Bao, or practice your bargaining skills.

This is a free day at Ngala Beach Lodge. You can try optional activities like kayaking, snorkeling, a village walk, or a waterfall hike. Or you can simply relax in the warm fresh waters of Lake Malawi.

You say goodbye to Lake Malawi and drive through Nkhotakota Game Reserve as you head toward the Zambian border. After crossing into Zambia, you continue to Petauke, a region known for agricultural production.

Petauke to Lusaka
An early start means a long drive on the Great Eastern Road to Lusaka, Zambia's capital. The drive takes you through lush countryside and you'll cross the rushing Luangwa River. By evening you'll reach a tranquil farm outside this fast-growing city.

Livingstone
You have a free day to relax or choose from several optional activities. Try viewing Victoria Falls from additional angles (expect to get wet), canoe or raft down the Zambezi River, try bungee jumping or fishing, take a scenic flight over the falls, or go abseiling.
