Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut
Start with breakfast and a briefing before driving to Marangu village and Kilimanjaro National Park Gate, which takes about 45 minutes. You'll register at the park authority offices and then begin trekking through rainforest to Mandara Hut at 9,000 ft. If you're up for it, a side trip to Maundi Crater offers nice views of Northern Tanzania.

Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut
After breakfast around 8:30 a.m., head out trekking toward Horombo Hut. About an hour in, you'll leave the rainforest and follow an ascending path through open moorlands. On clear days, you can see Kibo and Mawenzi peaks, plus giant lobelias and groundsels scattered around. Horombo Hut serves as a common acclimatization point, and many climbers spend an extra day here to improve their chances for the summit.

Landmarks Kibo Peak Mawenzi Peak - Day 3
Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut
After breakfast, trek to the last watering point and cross the saddle between Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. Vegetation starts in the upper moorlands then transitions into desert-like terrain. You'll arrive at Kibo Hut for dinner and rest, with the summit push starting around 11:30 p.m.

Landmarks Kibo Peak Mawenzi Peak - Day 4
Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak to Horombo Hut
Starting around midnight, begin the final ascent to Uhuru Peak at 5,895 m (19,340 ft), Africa's highest point. The demanding five-hour climb leads to Gillman's Point on the crater rim. William's Point at 5,000 m is your first major rest stop, roughly two hours up. From there, navigate rocky switchbacks to Gillman's Point at 5,681 m. The stretch from Gillman's to Uhuru Peak is gradual but long and tiring at altitude, taking about two more hours on the crater rim. After photos at the summit, descend to Kibo Hut for a short break and snacks, then continue down to Horombo Hut, arriving in the afternoon for your final night on the mountain.

Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate
After breakfast, finish your trek by descending to Marangu Gate through the cloud forest. Watch your footing on the descent as the trail can get slippery. Your vehicles will be waiting at the gate to drive you back to Moshi for dinner and your final night at Panama Garden Resort or similar accommodation.
