  2. Day 2

    Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut

After breakfast around 8:30 a.m., head out trekking toward Horombo Hut. About an hour in, you'll leave the rainforest and follow an ascending path through open moorlands. On clear days, you can see Kibo and Mawenzi peaks, plus giant lobelias and groundsels scattered around. Horombo Hut serves as a common acclimatization point, and many climbers spend an extra day here to improve their chances for the summit.

  4. Day 4

Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak to Horombo Hut

Starting around midnight, begin the final ascent to Uhuru Peak at 5,895 m (19,340 ft), Africa's highest point. The demanding five-hour climb leads to Gillman's Point on the crater rim. William's Point at 5,000 m is your first major rest stop, roughly two hours up. From there, navigate rocky switchbacks to Gillman's Point at 5,681 m. The stretch from Gillman's to Uhuru Peak is gradual but long and tiring at altitude, taking about two more hours on the crater rim. After photos at the summit, descend to Kibo Hut for a short break and snacks, then continue down to Horombo Hut, arriving in the afternoon for your final night on the mountain.

    Meals
    Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

  5. Day 5

    Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate

After breakfast, finish your trek by descending to Marangu Gate through the cloud forest. Watch your footing on the descent as the trail can get slippery. Your vehicles will be waiting at the gate to drive you back to Moshi for dinner and your final night at Panama Garden Resort or similar accommodation.

  • Kilimanjaro Hike (Machame Route) reviewer 1

My only concern is that we were under the impression that we would have two different options for the hikes. The itinerary indicated the best route with both two options "7 and 8 days Lemosho". Some wanted to do more, some less. We, of course, opted for the 8 days since we wanted more acclimatization on the the mountain. Thank you SHUJAA TOURS, for a great trip! You made our Kilimanjaro climb something we will always fondly remember. This local company is simply indescribable. Our accommodations were unbeatable, and the crew was there always on time to help us make all our connections. We really fell in love with the our great supporting crew;guides, cooks and amazing hard working porters; meeting them was an unexpected highlight of the trip. SHUJAA TOURS knows how to handle staff in a high professional way and works with the very dedicated staff just like David, we really loved him;he is without a doubt one of the BEST trip planner I've ever had. From the beginning to the end he was there; seeing to our needs, answering our numerous questions, ever the diplomat. He is knowledgeable, personable and tireless! and we highly recommend this amazing team for your trip to Tanzania.
