Lobuche to Everest Base Camp to Gorakshep

The final push toward Mount Everest starts with a gradual uphill walk through a grassy valley for the first hour, then a steep 20-minute climb followed by a rocky moraine path with icy-glacial ponds and icebergs visible below on the Khumbu glacier. After the final moraine dunes, a short downhill brings you to Gorakshep (5,160m) on a flat field with teahouses. From there, you continue to Everest Base Camp (5,357m) following rocky dunes and moraine (the trail shifts yearly due to glacier movement). The walk is strenuous due to high altitude, but you're rewarded with views of the Khumbu icefall. After exploring, you trek back to Gorakshep for the overnight.

Pumori's southwest ridge where Everest appears extremely close between Nuptse and Lhotse, with Everest Base Camp visible far below on the Khumbu glacier moraine. After taking in this perspective, you descend back to Gorakshep and continue a 5 to 6 hour downhill trek to Pheriche (4,243m). The route passes through Thugla where the Dingboche trail branches off, then continues downhill into the flat Pheriche Valley (which can be very windy in the afternoon).
