Itinerary
- Day 1
Edinburgh to Oban
Start heading north from Edinburgh through rolling Scottish countryside. You'll pass the Kelpies sculpture, then drive by Stirling where you can see the Wallace Monument and Stirling Castle in the distance. After stopping for lunch, the landscape opens up as you enter the Highlands, moving through wild Rannoch Moor and the dramatic Glen Coe valley. Arrive in Oban, a quiet fishing town on the coast, and settle in for your first night.

Oban to Portree
From Fort William, board the Jacobite Steam Train heading to Mallaig (summer route until October 20, 2025). The train crosses the Glenfinnan Viaduct, the famous bridge from Harry Potter films, with sweeping views of Loch Shiel along the way. Once in Mallaig, take the ferry across to Skye, then drive to Portree for the night. Winter route (October 27-March 30, 2026) takes you by car through the Highlands instead, passing Glenfinnan Viaduct, Eilean Donan Castle, and the Skye Bridge before reaching Portree.

Isle of Skye to Inverness
Spend the day exploring Skye's mountainous interior, jagged coastline, and local traditions. When heading back to the mainland, stop at Eilean Donan Castle for photos. Drive along the Great Glen and visit the Dundreggan Rewilding Centre to learn how Trees For Life is restoring the ancient Caledonian Forest. Arrive in Inverness where you'll stay for two nights.

Inverness
Summer route (until October 20, 2025): Take a cruise on Loch Ness searching for 'Nessie', then head to Beauly. Visit the 13th-century Beauly Priory ruins, grab lunch, and spend the afternoon at Culloden Battlefield and Clava Cairns with its standing stones and chambered mounds. Winter route (October 27-March 30, 2026): Drive along Loch Ness banks to Beauly, see Beauly Priory, and finish at Culloden Battlefield where the 1746 Jacobite defeat occurred.

Inverness to Edinburgh
Summer route (until October 20, 2025): Leave Inverness and visit the Highland Folk Museum to see how people lived centuries ago. Stop at a local whisky distillery for a tour and tasting. Final stop is Dunkeld where you'll walk through the village, see the cathedral and riverside, then drive back to Edinburgh by evening. Winter route (October 27-March 30, 2026): Start at Clava Cairns, visit a whisky distillery, then return to Edinburgh in the evening.
