Morning pickup from your Las Vegas hotel takes you across the Mojave Desert toward Death Valley National Park. Once you arrive, you'll see the colorful Badlands right away, then head to Zabriske Point for views across Death Valley and the Panamint Mountains. After checking the visitor center, you'll walk the Golden Canyon and Gower Gulch loop with lunch on a hilltop overlooking the valley. By evening, dinner is cooked over the camp fire under the stars.

The route starts at the historic Charcoal Kilns and climbs through juniper and pinyon forest on the east slopes. From the summit, you can see Death Valley, Panamint Valley, and snow-capped peaks of the Sierra Nevada Range stretching out in all directions.

From there, the drive continues west to Darwin Falls, a rare spring-fed waterfall that seems out of place in one of the world's driest regions. An easy two-mile hike brings you to this quiet spot before you return to Furnace Creek for dinner.

Lunch happens on the trail or at Dante's View if weather cooperates, which sits as the park's best overlook spot. After reflecting on the desert experience, the return shuttle takes you back to Las Vegas.

All questions
  • C

    Colin

    Asked on August 18th, 2024

How much hiking experience is needed. I could hike 5.5 miles with elevation of 945 ft in 2 hrs 12 minutes. Is that enough experience for the 2000 elevation hike?

    Tour Details
    • Wildland TrekkingOperatorWritten August 2024

This is only a level 2 difficulty hike so it sounds like you shouldn't be too daunted by it. The elevation changes are big, but you can certainly train for that.
