- AAmanda· October 15th, 2023The Inca Trail of course is an incredible highlight for 4 days - but within that 4 days, I would say that the highlight was really how well cared for we were by the Porteurs and the Cook. They were so attentive, and just radiated joy, so it made the entire experience that much more special. A key highlight was that our wonderful cook made us a CAKE on our last camping evening to celebrate getting through the 2 peaks on day 3. that was pretty special. on the rest of the tour, another highlight was spending the night on Taquile island. meeting local people, being able to share their culture and meeting the family, it was really special. in addition to all the wonderful things we saw, my other highlight is just how well Julio and the local guides were able to convey the history and the beliefs of the culture. being able to participate in the things like APACHETA ceremony (with the stones) and talking about Inca beliefs etc, it felt really immersive into the culture - and it was really special to learn about more than just dates at which something happened, we really discussed how people were, what they believed in, who they were. it was incredible in terms of learning. the variety of the tour and having that length of time also means that i feel like i really was able to get to know Peru vs. just having inca trail on a check list. final highlight for me was really JULIO CESAR YABAR as a tour leader. i cannot overstate how impressed I was. he was extremely well prepared, well informed, caring, but also really friendly and kind. this was important to me because I suffered from altitude sickness quite badly when we go to Chivay and had to call the doctor, and i felt really safe with the whole process. in addition, this (+ my covid pre trip) meant i was really worried about this inca trail, but Julio was very supportive and talked me through the different options so that i felt like I know what the next steps were. on the trail, Julio checked in regularly with each member of the group to ensure everyone was doing ok - but in a way where there was no pressure and everyone was just keeping their own pace. he made the trip even more special, so i really would like to commend him for that!Show moreTrip date: September 2023Review collected by Explore!

- AAvishaiBenDavidandElizabethBurin· October 14th, 2022This is a good tour, quite intense: it packs a lot into a relatively short time and includes some long bus rides, as the distances are great. The itinerary brings you up to the higher altitudes slowly, allowing time to acclimate. The Inca Trail is challenging but worth while. Explore schedules it to start at midday, which means that you do not hike together with the many other groups. There are a few shorter hikes earlier in the trip for training, in between fascinating cultural and archaeological sights.Show more
