- Day 2
Beijing
Your local guide leads you through Beijing's historical core starting with Tian'anmen Square and the Forbidden City, where you'll learn about imperial China's complex past. From there you'll walk through the old Hutong area with its narrow alleyways and traditional neighborhoods. If time works out, you'll also visit the Temple of Heaven, where emperors historically went to pray for good harvests.

Beijing to Xian
Early start for the 2-hour drive to Mutianyu Great Wall. You'll take a cable car up to the wall itself and spend time walking the section there. After that, you head to the train station for a 5-hour bullet train ride to Xian. You'll arrive in the late afternoon and transfer to your hotel in this ancient capital city.

Xian
