Traian was a great guide, knowledgeable, friendly and helpful; it was especially appreciated that he gave us some space and free time to explore and experience places by ourselves. Highlights for us were: the home cooked lunch in Viscri and the traditional Romanian dinner in Voronet; Bran Castle; the drive through Bicaz gorge; the city of Brasov; and the painted monasteries of Bucovina. Marcel, our tour guide, was very diligent about finding out what we were most excited to see. As long as we all were agreeable, he was flexible to our wants and needs. There were four of us in the group and two of us were solo travelers. All of our wants and needs aligned well and I think everyone enjoyed the tour. We saw 4 bears, and lots of stray dogs that we stopped for and fed (Romanians take care of their strays). We had a great afternoon with a pottery maker— quite talented. We saw painted monasteries, walled forts, castles and churches. Our group as a whole asked Marcel to bypass some of the monasteries in favor of reaching the cities that we were overnighting at and this gave us some more leisurely time to wander the cities.we ate some great Romanian food. This was a great tour with a flexible guide who is diligent, responsible and fluent in English. However, we do have another great option: the Classic Romania – 8 Days tour, which departs on May 1 from Bucharest. The price for a single traveler is €2023.

Does this tour allow a drive on the beautiful Transfagarasan Mountain Road? I read that it was not open until June. I am also Celiac and was wondering if there are gluten free food options available.

Due to snow, the Transfagarasan road will remain closed until June. The longest day of the tour will cover approximately 300 km, as we travel from Transylvania (Cluj) to the Bucovina area (Voronet) and cross the Carpathians. This drive will take around 5 hours and promises spectacular scenery. We do offer gluten-free options.

Extra Night Accommodation: For an extra night, we have arrangements at Concorde Old Bucharest, with a rate of 130 EUR per night (breakfast included). Currently, we have one booking from a couple. We expect more travelers to join, so you'll have plenty of opportunities to share lunch and dinner with fellow participants.
