A 14-day trek through 9 destinations across three countries unveils UNESCO sites, iconic waterways, and local cultures. Selected 3-star hotels, professional guides, and included meals enhance this comprehensive tour.
- Days 1-2
Luang Prabang
Begin in this UNESCO-listed city. Visit Wat Xieng Thong early morning to watch monks collecting alms. Remember to wear clothes covering shoulders and knees. Take a boat up the Mekong to Pak Ou Caves and stop at Ban Xanghai village to see rice wine production. Visit the evening market after 5pm when it's cooler. For the best sunset views from Mount Phousi get there 30 minutes before sunset to secure a good spot.
- Days 3-4
Hanoi
Fly to Vietnam's capital. Take a cyclo ride through the Old Quarter but agree on the price first ($8-10 per hour). Get to the Temple of Literature at 8am opening to avoid crowds. Make time for the Museum of Ethnology to learn about Vietnam's 54 ethnic groups. The Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum is closed Mondays and Fridays.
- Days 5-6
Halong Bay
- Days 7-8
Hoi An & Da Nang
- Days 9-10
Hue
The drive from Hoi An takes 2.5 hours over the beautiful Hai Van Pass. Get to the Citadel early before tour groups arrive. Take a dragon boat on the Perfume River to see Thien Mu Pagoda. One traveler notes: "The medicinal foot bath at Thuy Bieu village was perfect after a long day of walking - don't skip this local experience."
- Day 11
Saigon
Take a morning flight from Hue. Explore District 1's highlights including Notre-Dame Cathedral and the Central Post Office. Plan about 2 hours for the War Remnants Museum which closes at 5pm.
- Days 12-14
Siem Reap
Arrive in the morning to maximize temple time. See Angkor Wat at sunrise (be there by 5am) and rest during the hot midday. Ta Prohm looks best in early morning light. A local guide recommends: "Visit Bayon temple after 4pm when most tour groups have left and the faces are beautifully lit." Consider a Tonle Sap Lake boat trip but avoid March-July when water levels are low.
14 Day Southeast Asia Itinerary, incl. Bangkok and Luang Prabang
Southeast Asia's treasures unfold across Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Luang Prabang, Vang Vieng, and Hanoi. River cruises, temple visits, waterfall treks, and cultural performances highlight stays in comfortable hotels and authentic homestays.
- Days 1-2
Bangkok, Thailand
Begin your Southeast Asia adventure in vibrant Bangkok. Take a longtail boat tour through the historic klongs to Wat Po temple. "Watching the sunset over the canals while heading to Wat Po was magical - just time your visit to avoid the midday heat." On the evening of Day 2 take the overnight train to Chiang Mai. Book a lower berth if you can. They're wider and you'll get better views from the window.
- Days 3-4
Chiang Mai & Chiang Khong
Visit Chiang Mai's temples including the mountaintop Doi Suthep. You'll need good walking shoes for the steep steps. Travel to Chiang Khong and stop at the stunning White Temple on the way. "The early morning alms-giving ceremony in Chiang Mai was incredibly moving - bring a shawl as mornings are cool."
- Days 5-8
Mekong River & Luang Prabang, Laos
Cross into Laos for a 2-day boat trip down the Mekong River. You'll stay in a village home on the first night. Pack light since you'll carry your bags up steep riverbanks. Once in Luang Prabang visit the Ethnology Museum and Kuang Si waterfalls. "The Kuang Si falls were a highlight - go early around 8:30 AM to beat both crowds and heat." Take time to browse the night market or try a cooking class.
- Days 9-11
Vang Vieng & Vientiane
- Days 12-14
Hanoi, Vietnam
End your trip in lively Hanoi. Start at Ho Chi Minh's Mausoleum before 10:30 AM when it closes. Watch a water puppet show and explore the Old Quarter's winding streets. It's easy to lose your way in the narrow alleys so keep track of where you are. "Book afternoon activities in Hanoi since morning traffic can be overwhelming for first-timers."
14 Days in Indochina, incl. Ho Chi Minh City and Angkor Wat
A 14-day circuit through Southeast Asia reveals Vietnam's Cu Chi tunnels, Cambodia's Angkor temples, and Bangkok's canals. Mekong Delta homestays offer authentic local connections, while UNESCO World Heritage sites dazzle. Quality lodging includes Rembrandt Bangkok.
- Days 1-2
Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
Start your journey in vibrant HCMC with a visit to the Cu Chi tunnels, a 150-mile network used during the Vietnam War. Go early to avoid crowds and heat. "The Cu Chi tunnels were extremely interesting, showing incredible creativity and courage." Spend your afternoon at the War Remnants Museum but be ready for graphic images. The Ben Thanh Market offers great local food and souvenirs.
- Days 3-4
Mekong Delta
Take a 3-hour drive to Cai Be and visit cottage industries along the way. Stay overnight with a local family. "The Mekong Delta homestay was a treat," according to one reviewer. "Take plenty of mosquito repellent, especially for the Delta!" Next day head to Vinh Long then Chau Doc. Climb Sam Mountain for a sunset view into Cambodia.
- Days 5-6
Kampot, Cambodia
- Days 7-8
Phnom Penh
The 4-hour drive takes you to Cambodia's capital. Visit Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum (S21) and the Killing Fields in the morning. These sites are difficult but important for understanding Cambodia's history. Later explore the Royal Palace complex and Silver Pagoda. One traveler notes: "The Russian Market is great for souvenirs, but don't try to squeeze it in right after the Killing Fields. It feels disrespectful."
- Days 9-11
Siem Reap & Angkor Temples
The drive from Phnom Penh takes about 8 hours including stops at Skuon (try the fried spiders) and the pre-Angkorian Sambor Prei Kuk temples. Spend two full days exploring the Angkor temple complex. Visit Angkor Wat before 8:30 AM to avoid crowds and heat. See Ta Prohm with its tree-covered ruins and Bayon with its 54 carved towers. On day 11 visit Banteay Srei temple 22 miles from town.
- Days 12-14
Bangkok, Thailand
Getting from Siem Reap to Bangkok takes about 3 hours to the border plus travel time. Explore Bangkok by long-tail boat through the canals. What people love about 2-week South East Asia tours
- Thailand and Laos Adventure
Our group leader 'Apple' was incredible, full of knowledge and enthusiasm; always smiling and making everyone laugh. She, along with the rest of my group are what made the trip for me - meeting some amazing people I would make yourself aware that you are joining in a pre-existing group, that may bother some people but I was fine with this. The disappointment with this trip is that not much is included - I have paid the same price for trips with different companies for the same duration in similar accomodation and transport and far more activities are included and paid for than on this trip. It's good if you want flexibility and choice but it is very expensive considering you don't get much included
- Thai Indochina Explorer
The Indo China Tour was good. There is a mixture of activity. Guides always try to do their best to show case their country, especially IS our tour guide in Thailand. She is very helpful, she educate us about the food in Thailand and always on top of everything
- 14-Day Thailand to Laos: Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Luang Prabang & Hanoi
Had an amazing time in Thailand. Loved seeing the elephants. However, if you get some sort of cut on yourself do not go into the mud pit. Unless you want an infection. Chiang Mai- The stars you could see at the treehouse were amazing. Saw many shooting stars even though there wasn't a meteor shower that was going on. Zip-lining was great as there were many zip lines to go on. Our group leader, Mai, was amazing. She was so friendly and cared so much about us. Met a lot of amazing people on this trip. Going to Laos was a hassle with what currency the boarder would take. Make sure when you get American dollars they are crisp and absolutely have no writing on them. No rips either! The slow boat should have only been 1 day long, but I heard Feb. is the last month for that. So good. Suggest getting the hot air balloon ride in Laos. I recommend it because I didn't die. Recommend staying an extra day in Vietnam. You can join in on the group activities, but just pay the fees since the tour is over for you. Some of the hostels aren't great, but that's a review for them. Also, when they say biking is easy that's a lie.
