What people love about Self-Guided Tours in Turkey
- Turquoise Blue - Fethiye/Kekova/Fethiye
Great boat saw so many pretty places the food was excellent and plentiful. However, I could feel the captains reluctance to follow the rout given and his comments were sometimes unkind about us asking to use the tender to go ashore, he said it’s not a taxi and I asked for help to put the side safes up as I couldn’t do it alone he said “ I do it” his attitude wasn’t the best sadly
- Gulet Cruise, Kemer – Kekova – Kemer
Lovely relaxing trip, beautiful scenery and nice boat. Captain and his wife were pleasant and kind. Food was lacking both in variety and amount and dietary requirements, despite having been made aware of previously were not catered for. Drinking water was charged for despite being told it was inclusive at meal times and there were no fishing or snorkelling equipment, again after being told that these were available. It’s a shame as these few tweaks would have made all the difference from it being a good experience to a great one

This was a wonderful experience. Everything went smoothly with no problems, and all our wishes were fulfilled in advance. The amazing destination created an unforgettable experience. THANK YOU for that!
What our customers ask about Self-Guided Tours in Turkey
What are the best regions in Turkey for self-guided travel?
The Mediterranean coast of Turkey stands out as a prime region for independent travelers. The stretch between Fethiye and Antalya along the Lycian Way provides clear trail markers and sea views. Cappadocia's unique landscape makes it easy to explore on your own with its network of valleys and historic sites. The Bodrum peninsula gives access to sailing routes that connect spots like Cleopatra Island Orak Island and the Seven Islands. Getting around major cities such as Istanbul and Izmir is straightforward thanks to efficient public transit systems and well-designed walking routes.
What level of hiking experience is needed for self-guided tours in Turkey?
Most trails in Turkey suit travelers with basic hiking experience and average fitness. The Lycian Way involves daily walks spanning 11-15km with height gains of 300-400m. Cappadocia offers gentler terrain with walks lasting 3-5 hours per day. Places like Star Cave Hotel in Goreme and Faralya Village guesthouses serve as comfortable bases between walks. A TourRadar traveler noted: "The trails were challenging enough to be interesting but not overly difficult perfect for independent hikers with average fitness levels."
How does accommodation work on self-guided tours in Turkey?
The accommodation system works through pre-arranged bookings at local hotels pensions and guesthouses with luggage transfer service included. Visitors to Cappadocia often stay in distinctive cave hotels such as Divan Cave House in Goreme or family-run establishments in Ortahisar. The Lycian Way features properties like the Faralya Botanical Garden. As one TourRadar traveler commented: "The accommodations were carefully selected authentic places offering great hospitality and comfort after long days of hiking plus our bags were always waiting for us at the next stop."
How safe is it to drive in Turkey as a tourist?
Road conditions in Turkey are good particularly on the main highways connecting tourist spots. The coastal drive from Antalya to Fethiye is especially accessible for visitors. Road signage appears in both Turkish and English and rental companies maintain 24-hour support services. A TourRadar traveler shared "We felt very secure driving between Antalya and Pamukkale with plenty of rest stops and helpful locals when needed. Just be prepared for some mountainous roads in the Taurus Mountains."
What's the best time of year for self-guided hiking in Turkey?
Spring (April-May) and autumn (September-October) offer the best conditions for hiking the Lycian Way with mild temperatures and fewer tourists. Cappadocia welcomes hikers from April through October though summer brings high temperatures. Coastal areas near Fethiye and Kas allow winter hiking thanks to mild weather. Some routes like Butterfly Valley show their best colors in spring during wildflower season. A TourRadar traveler advised: "We did our self-guided trek in late September and had perfect weather - warm days for hiking but not too hot and lovely cool evenings."
