What people love about Fully Guided Tours from Sofia
- Ancient Macedonia
One of the best Explore holidays
- Balkan Kaleidoscope
Balkan Kaleidoscope is a well constructed, interesting, scenic, and well delivered trip. While each town visited offers something new and exciting, there is the flavour of the Balkans (particularly orthodox churches) constantly present. One highlight is that every single hotel is ideally located close by to all the major places you'd want to see while visiting. Further, these hotels seem a bit more upscale than those used during your typical tour group. All included nice breakfasts. The quality of the tour leader was top class; professional, warm, caring, thorough and knowledgeable. While some days involve longish drives, these are broken up with either lunch places at fantastically low prices, or visits to relevant sites along the way. Be prepared to use multiple currencies, but there is ample access to atm machines which all have options for English instructions. This trip certainly is great value for money.
- Best of Balkans (4 Star Hotels)
This trip is great value for money and such fun. Would definitely recommend to singles and couples alike! Only thing the company need to work on is liaising with or choosing better hotels, a few "hadn't turned on the hot water" because it was off season [March].
What our customers ask about Fully Guided Tours from Sofia
What's the best time of year for guided tours starting from Sofia?
You'll find the best weather from May through October, with temperatures around 75-85°F (24-29°C). July and August are perfect for outdoor sites like Rila Monastery, but expect more tourists then. Winter tours from December to March are cooler at 30-40°F (-1 to 4°C) and focus mainly on skiing, especially around Bansko. Want fewer crowds? Try spring (April-May) or fall (September-October) when the weather is mild and sites are quieter. As one traveler told us, "We went in October with unseasonably perfect weather for exploring all the sites."
What are the most popular destinations visited on guided tours from Sofia?
From Sofia, you'll travel to some amazing Balkan cities. You'll see Skopje's impressive Alexander the Great statue in Macedonia, explore the beautiful UNESCO Old Town of Ohrid by the lake, visit Tirana's bustling Skanderbeg Square in Albania, walk Kotor's medieval walls in Montenegro, and cross Mostar's iconic bridge in Bosnia. One happy traveler shared: "Wonderful sites, well organized, great tour leader and guides. The hotels were generally fine and perfect small group size."
What accommodation standards can I expect on guided tours from Sofia?
You'll stay in comfortable 3-4 star hotels right in the city centers. These include places like Best Western Terminus Hotel in Sofia, Doa Hotel in Skopje, and Albanopolis Hotel in Tirana. Each room comes with a private bathroom and breakfast is included daily. You won't have to worry about location - the hotels are all walking distance to main attractions. As one traveler put it: "The hotels were all very good, clean and well-located in city centers."
What are the most common first destinations after departing Sofia on guided tours?
From Sofia, you'll typically head to either Belgrade, Serbia (about 4-5 hours away) or Plovdiv, Bulgaria (2 hours away). If you take the Balkan Discovery tour, you'll visit Plovdiv first to see its Roman ruins and beautiful Revival-era houses. The Best of Balkans tour goes straight to Belgrade where you'll explore its fortress and walk down lively Knez Mihailova street. Travelers love both options since you get to experience such different cultures right from day one.
What transportation is used for guided tours starting in Sofia?
You'll travel in air-conditioned vehicles that fit your group size - cars for up to 3 people, minivans if there are 8 or fewer, and larger sprinter vans for bigger groups. Most city-to-city drives take between 3-6 hours. For example, it's about 6 hours from Sofia to Skopje and 4 hours from Tirana to Kotor. One traveler mentioned: "Great experience with comfortable vehicles and excellent drivers throughout the journey."
How much free time is typically available on these tours?
You'll get a good mix of guided activities and time to explore on your own. Most days include organized sightseeing in the morning, then free afternoons or evenings to wander around cities like Belgrade, Sarajevo, and Dubrovnik. One traveler commented: "We had the perfect mix of guided tours in the mornings and free time to explore places like Sofia's Vitosha Boulevard or try local restaurants in Skopje's Old Bazaar area."
